Mangaluru, Jun 24: Several media reports claimed that at least five of the accused in connection with the murder case of SDPI activist Ashraf Kalai were arrested yesterday by the police.ashrafkalai

Ashraf (33), president SDPI’s Ammunje zonal unit, was hacked to death by a gang of miscreants at Benjanapadavu in Bantwal taluk in broad daylight on June 21. The SDPI has called the murder a handiwork of Sangh Parivar.

According to media reports, the police have arrested Divyaraj, Abhin, Pavan, Santosh and Shivaprasad, all said to be local residents. However, the local police neither rejected the report, nor confirmed it so far.

Inspector-General of Police (Western Range) P. Harishekaran, who is overseeing the investigation of the murder, earlier said that the police are questioning some suspects. “We will shortly have a breakthrough in the case. All those involved in the murder and those who have conspired will be arrested,” he said.

Sources privy to the investigation said that police may formally announce the arrest at a press meet after nabbing all the accused in connection with the case soon.

Bengaluru, Mar 6: Karnataka home minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said he has asked police to enhance the security of Congress leaders and former ministers UT Khader and Tanveer Sait.

"Threat perception has been there for some time now, all the more after the attack on Tanveer Sait. Their (Congress MLAs UT Khader and Tanveer Sait) security is necessary. I have intimidated them. I have asked police to enhance their security," Bommai told media persons.

"After the assault on Tanveer Sait, the police told me that there were some intelligence reports and asked to me to take proper security. They have given one police man for the name's sake," Khader said.

Bengaluru, Mar 15: All 21 Madhya Pradesh MLAs from Jyotiraditya Scindia's camp, who were lodged here at Prestige Golfshire Club, have been shifted to Ramada hotel in Yelahanka ahead of Monday's floor test in the state assembly.

In view of their arrival, the concerned authorities have strengthened security outside the hotel.

Following the exit of Scindia from Congress, these MLAs claimed to have resigned from the state Legislative Assembly.

On March 11, Congress sent two of its leaders -- Sajjan Singh Verma and Govind Singh -- to Bengaluru in order to pacify some of these rebel MLAs.

Most of the rebel MLAs are perceived close to Scindia and were apparently unhappy at Scindia being "ignored" in the party.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Congress MLAs, who arrived in Bhopal from Jaipur today morning ahead of the floor test in the Assembly on Monday, have been shifted to Courtyard by Marriott Hotel.

These MLAs were accompanied by senior Congress leader Harish Rawat, who exuded confidence of Kamal-Nath led government winning floor test in the Assembly.

Both Congress and BJP have issued whips to all its MLAs for the legislative assembly session in Madhya Pradesh, which is scheduled to be held from March 16 to April 13.

On Saturday, Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon had directed that a floor test will be held in the assembly on Monday.
