Mangaluru, Feb 19: A tense atmosphere prevailed at Sajipanadu village in Bantwal taluk after a clash broke out between workers of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Congress over alleged violation of the model code of conduct by the latter ahead of February 20 elections.
In fact public campaign for the second phase of the elections to the Zilla and Taluk Panchayat had come to an end on Wednesday night. However supporters of the Congress candidate of Pudu constituency of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat reportedly organized a road show on Thursday.
The road show enraged the SDPI supporters, who took the returning officer to task and raised slogans against Congress. This led to a clash between workers of Congress and SDPI.
Police rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control. As a precautionary measure additional forces were deployed in the area.
