Bantwal, May 25: A 40-year-old theatre artiste and a 14-year-old fellow artiste, both from Kumble in Kerala, drowned in the Netravati at Kadavinabagilu of Barimaru village of Bantwal on Saturday.
According to the police, Ajit, 40, who heads the Natu Polima Drama group, had come with seven children of his group to the house of a relative of his, Sanjeev Bhogi. They were to attend the wedding of one of Mr. Bhogi’s children on Sunday.
On Saturday evening, Ajit came along with members of his group for swimming in the river. Maneesh, 14, and Yakshit, 13, who were part of the group, were caught in the water. Ajit saw the two children and swam towards them. He brought Yakshit back to the shore and returned to rescue Maneesh.
However, Ajit ended up drowning along with Maneesh. Locals fished out their bodies late in the evening. Yakshit was admitted to a private hospital and is now out of danger, the police said.
