The tragedy that occurred at 1 a.m. blocked National Highway 75 at Surikumeru village for hours causing traffic chaos.

It is learnt that the driver of the ill-fated tanker, which was ferrying LPG from Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited to Bengaluru, lost control over his vehicle while negotiating a curve thanks to over-speed.

The villagers, who heard a loud noise at night moved out of their houses to find a topped bullet tanker. It is learnt that the driver and conductor had fled the spot. The villagers were panicked as the inflammable gas spread around the area emanating the pungent smell.

Since the accident took place near the village having around 50 houses, it was evacuated as precaution.

After receiving information from local residents the fire extinguishers rushed to the spot while the police cordoned off the area and diverted the vehicles on highway.

Over six dozen fire personnel from seven fire brigades including from Bantwal, Mangaluru East, Mangaluru West, Beltangady, Puttur took part in the overnight operation.

It is said that despite all the efforts the gas continued to leak till 8 a.m. and finally experts managed to plug the leak.

The vehicles moving towards Puttur from Mangaluru were stopped at Kalladka and diverted via Veerakmbha-Anantady-Kodaje route. Vehicles coming from the opposite direction were stopped at Kabaka and diverted via Vittal. Vehicles coming from the direction of Uppinangady were diverted through Mani-Anantady-Veerakmbha route.

I am surprised to see people are gathered around there without any fear...a little spark of fire will destroy everything up there...they should be away from that spot at least something around 200 meters.

Mangalore Bantwal Highway is probably the worst 4 lane Highway in India!!
Such tight turnings on a highway results in such accidents.

Ban all these bullet tankers moving on the road. Wherever it moves create problems. The public should aware the danger of these kind of tankers piling on the roads with hazardous materials. Instead of transporting these kind of hazardous materials/gas on the road let the companies use railway transport. Dear friends take this issue to the court directly. Banging govt dept doors is no use, because this system is a big lobby.

Shivamogga, Feb 4: Students of a government primary school which is built especially for the children of manual scavengers, have been facing tough times during classes as the filthy drainage passing through the school premises excrete human excreta and sludge.

The drainage passes through GSPL Scavenger's Colony School in Shivamogga city, located behind the state road transport corporation's bus stand (KSRTC).

According to the locals here, students studying in this school often fall sick due to the waste flowing from the drainage.

Penchelayya, the father of a child who studies in the same school said, "Human excreta floats in the drainage as it is connected to two toilets. The school stinks and students often fall sick due to the drainage."

The students studying here are unable to bear the foul smell emanating from the drainage which flows at the school's premises.

He added that waste from private bus stands is dumped in this drainage which ultimately flows here creating an extremely unhygienic environment for the people living here and students studying in this school.

He further claimed that the government is not ready to listen to their grievances.

Bellari, Feb 23: Fringe outfit Sri Ram Sena leader Sanjeev Maradi said on Friday said that organization will reward Rs 10 lakh to the person who will 'eliminate' those who have raised "pro-Pakistan" slogans including Amulya who recently raised "Pakistan Zindabad" slogan at an anti-CAA protest in Bengaluru.

"We request both state and central government not to release them (Pro-Pakistan sloganeers) on bail. If they will be released Sri Ram Sena will eliminate them or will give a reward of Rupees 10 lakh to those who kill them," said Sanjeev Maradi.

"We condemn such slogans. This is like a virus. First, it happened in Jammu and Kashmir, then in JNU, then Mysore and then a student named Amulya raised pro Pakistan slogan in Bengaluru," he added.

A girl named Amulya raised 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogan on Thursday at an anti-CAA protest where AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi was also invited.

Thereafter, a case was registered under Section 124A (Offence of sedition) of the Indian Penal Code against the student.

Meanwhile, Imran Pasha, the organizer of the anti-CAA protest said that Amulya was not invited to the event.

"We were the organizers of the event. At around 6:45 pm on Thursday, when I and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi were entering the stage area, we did not notice Amulya was present there. I did not invite her," Pasha told media.

Mangaluru, June 11: The Saudi Arabia based Expertise Contracting Company, which is repatriating its employees to India and other countries, today allocated around 90 seats of one of its chartered flights to Kannadigas stranded in Saudi Arabia.

The Gulf Air flight took off with around 175 passengers on board from Dammam International Airport around noon local time. It is expected to land at Mangaluru International Airport at around 7 p.m. Indian time.

In fact the company had chartered the flights only to repatriate its employees. However, due to the lack of special flights under Vande Bharati Mission, the company decided to help the other stranded Kannadigas in Saudi Arabia, who had approached Saudi Kannadigas Humanity Forum for help.

A company official said that around 2,000 employees from various countries in the Indian subcontinent are being repatriated, of which 1,665 are Indians.  Already hundreds of them have reached India, and hundreds are still waiting for repatriation.

“We are grateful to Expertise for allowing to travel in the flight which the company had chartered to repatriate its own employees,” said one of the passengers before boarding the flight at the airport.

Director of Expertise, KS Shaikh said the 20-year-old Expertise group, one of the largest conglomerates in the GCC operating in petrochemical and heavy equipment sectors, has more than 10,000 employees and their family members in the Gulf, mainly in Jubail, one of the largest industrial cities.

Of these, the company has chosen over 2,000 employees for the covid-related repatriations considering various emergencies. He said 12 chartered flights have been engaged to carry out the repatriation exercise to the Indian subcontinent.
