Mangaluru, Nov 2: A 44-year-old man has lost his life in a suspected wild board attack near Putthila village in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.
The victim has been identified as Gangahadhara, a resident of Bodalmane village. He was a toddy tapper.
On Tuesday, he had gone to get raw materials from a nearby forest reserve to make ropes to climb toddy producing trees. When he failed to return home on time, people started searching for him. In the evening they found Gangahadhara’s mangled body lying near a lake.
Police said that Gangahadhara was attacked by an aged wild boar, with the tusks of the boar piercing the front of both his thighs and private parts.
Forest officials from Uppinangady Range visited the spot and assured compensation to the kin of the victim. A case has been registered at Punjalakatte police station.
