Bantwal: Youth killed as speeding car knocks down motorbike

Bantwal, Jul 6: A speeding car rammed into a motorbike killing the rider on spot at K C Road near Kalladka in Bantwal taluk around 9: 30 a.m. on Thursday.

The bike rider has been identified as Mohammad Owais (20), son of D Ismail a resident of Nandarabettu of Parliya, B C Road. He was coming back after visiting his relatives in Kalladka when the incident took place.

The Toyota Qualis car bearing registration number KA19 MA1238 was going from Kalladka to Mani when it knocked down the Pulsar motorbike bearing registration number KA19 EV0497 at Krishnanagar near K C Road. As a result, the bike rider got thrown onto the road, and died on spot.

The body has been taken to Bantwal’s government hospital for post-mortem. Owais was the youngest among the 4 children of Ismail. Bantwal traffic police station SI Chandrashekaraiah arrived to the spot and investigated. A case has been filed at the traffic police station.

Belgaum, Mar 30: As many as 2442 labourers hailing from Karnataka have been brought back in 62 buses by the State government from Maharashtra on Sunday, in the backdrop of nation-wide lockdown following COVID-19 outbreak.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday urged migrant labourers not to leave the State owing to the nationwide lockdown and assured that the Maharashtra government will look after their interests.

Hundreds of migrants, a majority of whom are daily wage workers started rushing to their native places from different states amid uncertainty over their livelihood following the announcement of a 21-day nationwide lockdown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week in order to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.

Bengaluru, Jun 4: Assuring support to reform the police department, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Thursday directed officials to strengthen Cyber Crime, Economic Offences & Narcotics (CEN) stations and forensic labs in the state.

The Chief Minister who held a review of the Home Department, lauded the work of police personnel during the COVID-19 crisis, and promised necessary help to reform the department.

Pointing at the changing scenario, the Chief Minister instructed officials to give priority to strengthen CEN stations, his office said in a release. Similarly, for quick detection of crimes, necessary action will be taken to strengthen forensic labs, he added. During the meeting it was also decided to continue more than 3,000 home guards, who were in the fear of losing jobs, and to deploy them to various departments.

Yediyurappa directed officials to take necessary steps to make home guard services available to private organisations also. Officials informed the Chief Minister that all necessary COVID-19 related precautions have been taken at prisons and no case has been reported so far at jails. They said as per Supreme Court directions, 5,005 people were released on bail and parole, and congestion of prisoners at prisons has been reduced from 110 per cent to 95 per cent.

Yediyurappa also asked the officials to submit a proposal based on facts towards development of basic amenities that comes under the Home Department.

Udupi, Jan 4: A 37-year-old Udupi district JD(S) spokesperson allegedly committed suicide at his residence here last night, police said on Saturday.

It identified the deceased as Pradeep G Bailoor (37).

He was working as the District JD(S) spokesperson for many years.
