attack

Mohammed Riyaz (26), a resident of Irvathoor, Vamapadavu, suffered severe injuries to his neck in the unexpected attack by the knife yielding gang. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.

The attack took place when Riyaz was riding his motorbike towards Mangaluru to meet his hospitalized wife. Riyaz’s brother was riding pillion with him.

“When we reached BC Road Kaikamba, the funeral procession had just entered the town. We couldn’t move ahead easily due to traffic block. Meanwhile, miscreants began to pelt stones randomly. We were worried. My brother alighted from the motorbike. Within a few seconds someone pelted a stone at me. Before I could realise what was happening, a gang pushed me to the ground and attacked me with a knife,” explained Riyaz who is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

However, the police have not yet confirmed the stabbing. A senior police officer said that they are verifying video footages.

Bengaluru, Jan 24: After the visit of fact finding committee members to the spot, the Christian community here decided to submit a report to the state government urging to install a 114-ft. statue of Jesus Christ at Kapala Betta in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagaram district, Congress MLC Ivan D’souza said here on Thursday.

While talking to media, Mr D’souza said the committee would submit the report to Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and Revenue Minster R. Ashok and urge the government to construct the statue at the earliest.

The RSS and other BJP outfits have strongly opposed the installation, following which the government ordered suspension of the work. A few days ago, Kalladka Prabhakar, RSS ideologue, took out a rally in Kanakapura opposing the installation.

Bengaluru,  Jul 9: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said that he was opposed to a tie-up with Janata Dal-Secular in the last Lok Sabha elections but the party high command did not listen to him.

"I had suggested that we should fight alone (in Lok Sabha elections) because JD-S votes would not have come to us and our votes would not have gone to JD-S," Siddaramaiah told reporters here.

Congress leader said that he was the only one to make the suggestion and he did not get support.

"I was the only one to raise a voice that's why it was not heard by (party) high command and I did not get support. We might have won over seven seats in parliament election if we had fought alone," he said.

After forming government in Karnataka in 2018 with support of JD-S, Congress had fought the 2019 general election in a pre-poll alliance with the party. Congress could only one seat of the 21 it contested and JD-S also won one seat of the seven it contested.
