BCCI acting on Srnivasan's behest: Abdi

Mehmood-AbdiNew Delhi, May 8: The turf war between the suspended Rajasthan Cricket Association and the BCCI escalated today with RCA Deputy President Mehmood Abdi accusing the Board of acting in the most unfair manner to satisfy the "vengeance, hate and prejudicial grudge" carried by N Srinivasan against Lalit Modi.

A day after BCCI claimed that it acted as per rules in suspending RCA after the Modi was elected its President by a landslide margin despite being banned for life, Abdi said the parent body's actions were baffling.

"The action of the BCCI speaks volumes about its sheer arrogance and utter disregard for the law of the land and public sentiment, as it has demonstrated with the ban on the RCA in a most unfair and undemocratic manner," he said in a statement.

"It is completely bewildering that a democratically and duly elected body is destabilised within minutes of it being elected at the whim of the BCCI," he added.

Training his guns at Srinivasan, who has been forced to step aside as BCCI President due to the ongoing Supreme Court-monitored probe into the IPL betting scandal, Abdi said the Board is still being run by him.

"It is unfortunate that the individual centric attitude of the BCCI has led to such an impasse, that it stands currently at the lowest ebb of its credibility. Especially, since the BCCI has chosen to amend its bye-laws just to suit one Mr. N Srinivasan several times and that too within a short span of five years," he alleged.

"It definitely seems that the BCCI has different rules for different individuals, as the democratically elected RCA Committee is suspended simply to stall the return of one Mr. Lalit Modi.

"You show me the man and I will show you the rule, thus, seems to be the dictum of business at the BCCI. It is absolutely clear that Mr. N Srinivasan is still calling the shots within the BCCI as the spate of vengeance, hate and prejudicial grudge carried by the man is clearly reflected in the singular act of suspending the RCA in such a shameful and summary manner," Abdi stated.

Abdi said interim BCCI chief Shiv Lal Yadav does not seem to have any hold over the body.

"It is thus, amply clear that Mr. Shiv Lal Yadav is the hand-puppet for Mr. N Srinivasan. Being an interim President Mr Yadav has no right to take steps for the affiliation or disaffiliation of any member State Association. Affiliation and disaffiliation is the power of the general house of the Board," he said.

"The interim President seems to have acted at the behest of His Masters Voice and in undue haste without taking the members of BCCI into confidence," claimed Abdi.Abdi said the Board has acted unilaterally without even bothering to call a working committee meet to discuss the matter.

"...it is shocking that giving a complete miss to all the norms of democratic due process Mr. Shivlal Yadav and Mr. Sanjay Patel without calling at least the working committee to discuss the action to be taken in respect of RCA both President and Secretary proceeded to act against the RCA in a most arbitrary and summary manner," he said.

"BCCI cannot appoint any ad-hoc committee to replace the duly elected RCA. Under the Rajasthan Sports Act, it is only the Registrar of Co-operative Societies who can appoint an ad-hoc committee that too for failure of the sports association to comply with the provisions of the Sports Act.

"Moreover, under the Sports Act no person or body can use the word Rajasthan or represent Rajasthan in any sports unless their sports association is duly registered and formed under the Sports Act. Any such body seeking to represent Rajasthan in any cricketing activity other than through RCA will be violating the Sports Act which is a punishable offense under the same," Abdi added. Abdi said RCA was not bound to follow BCCI bye-laws.

"Though the RCA is a constituent member of the BCCI it is no way subservient to the BCCI. Especially since it is governed by the Sports Act under which Mr. Lalit Modi has not earned any disqualification. In case of a clash between a law (Sports Act) and private contract (BCCI bye laws) the law will prevail," he said.

"Mr. Sanjay patel who himself has been suspended by the Baroda Cricket Association for violation its bye laws is suspending the RCA – which is an irony. If anybody is to be acted upon, it should be Mr. Yadav who has anti-corruption unit cases pending against him for misappropriation of hundreds of crores of funds meant for a cricket stadium in Hyderabad," he alleged.

New Delhi, Aug 5: "Want to know what makes him tick," said Australian pacer Kane Richardson will talking about playing alongside Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

The IPL 2020 will be played in the UAE from September 19-November 10 and the tournament will run for 53 days.

In the players' auction which was conducted in December 2019, RCB managed to bag key players like Richardson, Chris Morris, Aaron Finch, Dale Steyn, Joshua Philippe, and Isuru Udana.

In an interaction with news agency, Richardson talked about playing alongside Kohli and the learning curve which is in store for him by being in the same squad as Proteas great Dale Steyn.
"Huge. These guys (Virat, AB de Villiers) are the absolute legends of the game. Anything I can learn from them will be a bonus, that's for sure.

I am really looking forward to playing with Virat, there are few more competitive players in the world. I am really looking forward to seeing what makes him tick," Richardson said.

The 29-year-old pacer also said that he would want to learn from Steyn as to how to be consistent in all formats of the game over a long period of time.

"There are loads I can learn from Dale. He has been amongst the best at the highest level for so long. His control and ability to swing the ball without losing his pace is really impressive. 

I look forward to getting in his ear about how he performs so consistently over a long period, in all forms," said Richardson who has 39 ODI wickets to his credit.

Richardson has so far played 14 games in his IPL career so far and has picked up 18 wickets. The bowler played for Pune Warriors India in 2013, Rajasthan Royals in 2014, and RCB in 2016.

For this year's IPL, RCB has also bagged Australia's limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch, and Richardson thinks having a familiar face in the camp would help him to settle better in the franchise.

"Finchey is an awesome player and a fantastic leader. I am sure it will help to have two Aussies in the side along with Josh who is playing his first tournament after a massive summer in the BBL. We are all professionals, I'm sure it won't take long for us to gel as a side," Richardson said.

However, before the IPL starts, Australia is expected to tour England for a limited-overs series, comprising of three ODIs and as many T20Is.

The side was last seen in action in March this year as they played one ODI against New Zealand in Sydney. After the first match, the remaining two ODIs were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Talking about the series against England, Kane replied: "We will be fresh, that's one thing, while the England players have been in a bubble for some time now. As long as we get enough practice in before and possibly some centre wicket it should not be an issue."

"They are World Cup holders and the number one ranked side for a very good reason. It will be a tough series also given they will have played a fair bit of cricket together by then. We know we need to work hard on our one-day game which will be a priority over the next period," he added.

The pacer also talked about how the lockdown was like for him, and Richardson feels that everyone would come back strong as a result of this break.

"The break from playing has been refreshing, to be honest. We have come back strong and are well into pre-season training with our states. As a bowler, our loads are not at their peak but we are working towards getting ready for a tour of the UK in a few weeks," Richardson said.

The Australian quick has so far played 25 ODIs and 18 T20Is, managing to take 39 and 19 wickets respectively.

New Delhi, Apr 15: Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri on Wednesday urged people to beat coronavirus by staying at home and by maintaining social distancing. He termed the virus 'mother of all World Cups' and asked people to combat this disease together and win the World Cup of humanity.

Taking to Twitter, Shastri shared a video post where he cited cricket examples to aware people about the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic. "As I would know, sports teaches you life lessons that can be applied to just about anything you want to pursue in rest of your life.

Today the COVID-19 has put us in a situation where we got our backs to the wall. To combat this coronavirus is like chasing a World Cup where you give your everything in trying to win it. What's staring you at the face is no ordinary World Cup. This is the mother of all World Cups where not just eleven are playing but 1.4 billion are in the playing arena and competing. Guys we can win this. For that, we have to observe the basics. You have got your Prime Minister leading from the front ahead of the curve like other countries have farmed out," Shastri said.

"You have to obey the orders that come from the top: be it centre, state or the frontline workers who are risking their lives. Two orders that stand out: staying home and maintaining social distancing. It is not easy but to win the game you got to go through the pain to break the chain and see the gain. Come on, guys! let's do it together. Let us get out there in a bruit force of 1.4 billion and beat this corona and get your hands on the World Cup of humanity. Let's do it," he added.

With 1,076 new COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, India's tally of coronavirus cases has risen to 11,439, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday.

Out of the total tally, 9,756 cases are active while 1,306 patients have been cured/discharged and migrated. With 38 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll rises to 377.

Melbourne, Feb 26: On a high after two easy victories on the trot, including one against defending champion Australia, the Indian women's cricket team will aim to inch closer to a semifinal berth when it takes on New Zealand in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup here on Thursday.

The Indians have hardly broke a sweat in their 17-run and 18-run wins over hosts Australia and Bangladesh in their previous two matches, and they are perched at the top of five-team Group A standings with four points from two matches.

A win against New Zealand on Thursday will take the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side on the threshold of a knock-out stage spot, to be competed among top two teams from Group A and B.

In the two matches so far, the Indian team has been impressive both in batting and bowling.

The 16-year-old sensation Shafali Verma has been the standout batter with a whirlwind 17-ball 39 against Bangladesh, following her 29 against Australia.

One-down Jemimah Rodrigues has also been among the runs with 26 and 34 in the two matches so far.

Only captain Harmanpreet, among the top order batters, has not scored big and she is due big innings.

India is also likely to be bolstered by the return of star opener Smriti Mandhana who missed the match against Bangladesh due to fever.

The middle-order has also done its bit with Deepti Sharma playing a major role against Australia with an unbeaten 49 while Veda Krishnamurthy hit a match-defining 11-ball 20 not out for a late flourish against Bangladesh.

The bowling department has been led admirably by seasoned leg-spinner Poonam Yadav -- seven wickets in the first two matches -- with pacer Shikha Pandey ably supporting her with five scalps so far.

New Zealand, though, have a better head-to-head record against India in recent years, having won the last three matches between the two sides.

Exactly a year back, they had beaten the Indian team 3-0 in a three-match T20 International home series.

India will, however, remember their massive 34-run win against New Zealand in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup in 2018 in the West Indies. Harmanpreet had struck a memorable 103 to lead her side to victory.

New Zealand have some top-class players in their ranks in the form of captain and all-rounder Sophie Devine and top-order batswoman Suzie Bates while pacer Lea Tahuhu and leg-spinner Amelia Kerr will lead the bowling department.

They will go into this match on a high after an easy seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka on Saturday.

Devine had led her side from the front with an unbeaten 75 off 55 balls at the top of the order in that win.
