Bengaluru, Jun 1: BJP has decided against making more attempts to pull down the Congress-JD(S) government in Karnataka, pouring cold water on B S Yeddyurappa’s ambition to helm the state again.
After attending Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, Yeddyurappa told reporters in Bengaluru on Friday: “The party leadership has issued us a diktat not to destabilise the government.” The central leadership passed the crisp message to him in New Delhi on Thursday at a meeting after the Modi team’s inauguration.
BJP’s decision has brought relief to beleaguered chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, who had been reaching out to Congress rebels to stop them from walking into BJP’s trap. The development comes as a second setback for Yeddyurappa in 48 hours.
On Wednesday, PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah picked Karnataka members for the cabinet reportedly from factions opposed to the Lingayat strongman.
