
Mangaluru, Jan 12: In the wake of a series of untoward incidents in coastal and malnad districts of Karnataka, Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy has directed the top cops in the region to be ruthless towards communal groups from all the communities including Hindu and Muslim.
Mr Reddy, who is on visit to the coastal city on Friday held a review meeting on law and order situation with senior police officers of coastal Karnataka and Chikkamagaluru at the Police Commissioner's office in the city. The top cops briefed him about their probe into the recent communal incidents in Mangaluru, Uttara Kannada and Chikkamagaluru.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner T R Suresh, IGP (Western Range) Arun Chakravarthy, Dakshina Kannada SP C H Sudhirkumar Reddy, Udupi SP Lakshman Nimbargi, Uttara Kannada SP Vinayak Patil and Chikkamagaluru Additional SP K H Jagadish were present among others.
Mr Reddy said that the communal groups have become more aggressive ahead of looming assembly polls in Karnataka. “Their goal is to gain political mileage by exploiting religious sentiments. Hence they are indulging in communal violence in the region. You should make a list of all goons involved in creating communal disturbance and take necessary action against them,” he told the cops.
