Beary Parishad to create awareness against Islamic State, other terror groups

Mangaluru, May 2: The Akhila Bharata Beary Parishad has taken the initiative to prevent some youths of Muslim community from being influenced by dreaded terror outfit ‘Islamic State’ (IS) which carries out anti-Islamic activities in the name of Islam and Muslims.

Speaking to media persons Parishad president B A Mohammed Haneef said that the organization will hold programmes in masjids and during other social congregations to create awareness among youths against the IS.

He said that terrorist groups such as IS were bringing a bad name to Muslim community by indulging in suicide bombing and other terrorist acts in India and Sri Lanka. Such groups were acting against the ethos of Islam that preaches harmonious living, he said.

Mr Haneef said that the parishad will involve religious heads in holding programmes to make youth aware of the intentions of IS. “We will make our efforts to prevent our youths from falling prey to ‘discourses’ by people working for IS,” he said. The parishad will strongly oppose “extremist groups that come against the traditional food of Muslims,” he said.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai had warned those who chose to defy the lockdown order clamped in nine districts, to prevent the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 virus in the state. 

Speaking to newsmen, he said, "We have ordered for a lockdown in nine districts in the state to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and issued guidelines to follow it."

The nine COVID-19-affected districts are Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada (Mangaluru), Dharwad, Belagavi, Kalaburgi and Chikkablapur.

According to Mr. Bommai, the State government will put in place further measures next week depending on how the situation will unfold in the State and the neighbouring States.

"Government offices will be operational in the State, including in the nine COVID 19-affected districts. As per the current schedule, the legislature sessions will also continue. Pourakarmikas will be working at 50% strength," he added.

Bengaluru, Jan 26: BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel has been served with a court notice asking him to personally appear before the special court for people’s representatives on February 24, in connection with a defamation suit filed by Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad.

Rizwan had lodged the defamation suit against Kateel and state BJP social media chief after the party, in a tweet during the 2019 Lok Sabha election, alleged Rizwan’s involvement in the manufacture of fake voter identity cards.

Apart from Kateel, head of the party’s social media unit has also been asked to appear in person at the above court on February 24.

Bengaluru, Mar 22: Monday's only pending II PU exam (English) and SSLC exams scheduled to start on March 27 have been postponed due to Covid-19 concerns. The new dates will be announced in April first week.

The decision was taken after a meeting with chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday morning, said state primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar.

Around 8.25 lakh students are to appear for the Class 10 exam.

"I appeal to SSLC students not to get frustrated. I know you're fully prepared, fully geared up. But this is a peculiar situation which calls for hard decisions. The new timetable will be published very soon. Students should treat is as an extended study leave. Please revise more. Do not treat this as a relaxation time. You'll have plenty of time to relax after the exams," he said.
