Belthangady, May 29: A college lecturer was brutally hacked to death in Kotikatte of Mundooru village in Belthangady taluk early on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as Vikram Jain, 40, who was working in an ITI college as lecturer.
The police said that Jain was allegedly attacked by a group of people.
They waylaid Jain when he was driving towards home, and attacked him with knives and a machete, they said.
Superintendent of Police B.M. Laxmi Prasad said a passerby noticed the body and informed the police at 7 a.m. The attackers left the knife on the body.
The police have recovered the machete, and the victim’s car from the spot.
Mr. Prasad said personal rivalry appeared to be the motive behind the murder. The police are working on some leads to trace the accused.
