Bengaluru: 266 women dancers rescued from rowdy’s birthday bash

Bengaluru, Jun 16: A notorious rowdy, who organized a mega bash at a dance bar in the city to celebrate his 34th birthday, escaped into the dark when a police team got wind of the event and stormed the venue on Friday night. Police rescued266 women who were forced to entertain the rowdy and his friends.

Giri alias Kunigal Giri is involved in over 80 cases including kidnapping, robbery, extortion and settling realty disputes. Preliminary investigations revealed that Giri had invited his friends, a few from the city’s underworld, for his birthday party at dance bar Times Bar and Restaurant on Residency Road. This was possibly the biggest bash organized by a rowdy for fellow rowdies in recent times in the city.

When decibel levels went up around midnight, police were tipped off about the party. When cops reached the venue, they were stunned to see boards that read ‘Happy birthday Giri Sir’ across the halls where women were dancing as men showered currency notes on them. The police team which conducted the raid was led by deputy commissioner of police (crime) S Girish and assistant commissioner of police (North) N H Ramachandraiah. Girish said: “The basement was lavishly decorated and the party was hosted in seven halls spread over three floors.”

Commotion prevailed as news spread about the raiding cops, and Giri, along with a few associates, fled the venue leaving behind an SUV and other cars they’ve come in.

Bengaluru, Aug 6: With rains in several parts of Karnataka amid Covid-19 pandemic, state Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar on Thursday asked the people to maintain caution and contact the Health department helpline in case of any symptoms.

"There is heavy rain in several districts of the state's coastal, Malnad and north interior regions. People have to observe utmost caution during these rains amid corona infections. In case of any symptoms like fever, cough and cold immediately call the health department helpline 104," Sudhakar tweeted.

As of August 5 evening, cumulatively 1,51,449 Covid-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 2,804 deaths and 74,679 discharges.

Among the districts where the new cases were reported, Bengaluru urban tops the list accounting for 64,881 cases.

Regarding Bengaluru, Sudhakar said, there are 4,276 beds across 11 Covid care centres in Bengaluru.

"As of today morning, 936 of them i.e., 27.79 percent are vacant. Out of the 3,346 patients, 306 patients are due for discharge today," he said in another tweet.

Aimed at availing beds at Covid-19 hospitals for symptomatic patients and those in need, the government had decided to shift all asymptomatic patients to Covid care centres.

Bengaluru,  Aug 4: Karnataka has seen a substantial increase in COVID-19 recovery rate, which was 5.67 per cent in the last week, state Medical Education Minister Dr. K Sudhakar said.

"Every day there is an increase in recovery rate which is higher by 9.17 per cent in Bengaluru city. The overall recovery rate of the state by Sunday evening was 42.81 per cent and it is 35.14 per cent in Bengaluru," the Minister wrote in a tweet.

Minister Sudhakar also directed officials to resolve the issue raised by a woman who had written to him about her struggle to take possession of the body of her father in St. Johns hospital, Madivala.

The hospital she claimed was charging money to hand over the body.

"It is inhuman on part of the hospital to refuse handover of the body. I came to know about this incident in the media and responded immediately to help out the woman," Dr. Sudhakar wrote in his tweet.

Karnataka has so far reported 74,598 active COVID-19 cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Hassan, Feb 2: Former prime minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda has said that the controversy over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act should be resolved peacefully through discussion.

Speaking to reporters in Halebeed on Saturday, Gowda said that the Act affects only Muslims but would also prove troublesome for the Hindus. “Opening fire on anti-CAA protesters is the not solution to the issue,” he said.

Deve Gowda said that during his tenure as prime minister a number of problems concerning Muslims were addressed. “But, in the run up to election, Rahul Gandhi described us ‘B’ team of BJP. This led to vote swing,” he added. When his comment was sought on the budget, the former prime minister said that he had not yet read the budget document.
