Bengaluru, Jun 9: A man who used to cite proximity to a Congress minister and collect money from people stating he could get their kids admitted to private schools, has been arrested by Electronics City police on charges of theft.
Sudhakar Vakkal , 39, of Naganathapura is accused of stealing a gold chain from a businessman's house. The complainant, Nagaraj of Doddatogur, told police: "I was trying to get my son admitted to Christ deemed-to-be University. After learning about my desperation from others, Vakkal approached me and said he knew a minister and senior officials in the institution and demanded a commission of Rs 50,000 for getting a seat." However, the complainant's son did not get a seat in the college and joined another college.
"On June 4, the accused came to my house and said he had worked hard to get a seat for my son and I should pay him at least Rs 25,000 towards his expenses. I refused and went inside to bathe. Later, I realised he had fled with a gold chain weighing 26g, that was kept near the TV," Nagaraj said in his complaint.
