According to a Bengaluru based newspaper, the main streets of the city saw thousands of men mobbing the revellers, and groping and trash talking the women in the streets in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

Mass molestation

Revellers had gathered at MG Road and Brigade Road at 11 pm to welcome the new year but what these areas witnessed were mass molestation, shameful comments and what not.

The men were too many, and too unruly, according the Bangalore Mirror report.

Drunk hooligans

None of these arrangements made by Bengaluru Police were of any help to the women who became easy targets of drunk hooligans and unruly men.

According to an eyewitness, two women were accosted by a group of youth on MG Road.

Women cried for help

During crowd control exercise, many young women, some of them weeping, started to run towards women police officers, an eyewitness said.

Women who were caught in an unruly mob didn't have the protection of a helpful male friend or relative sought refuge with women cops on MG Road, another eyewitness added.

Bengaluru police had initially claimed to take all precautions to ensure an 'incident-free' New Year but these incidents made Bengaluru's head hang in shame.

The girls are main cause for this disturbance. It is shame that these girls went to enjoy and there is no fault of the boys. They girls are half naked and inviting. Gilrls should keep their modesty and not roam on the roads in the night with half naked dresses. These girls actually went to enjoy with whoever she can. Nonde will disturb them if they dress in decent manner and keep away from such areas. there is mistake of boys also, but 50 percent fault is of these girls. I think this will be a good lesson for them and they will take care in the future. They will learn only while such issue occurs. I dont feel sorry for this. However, the culprits should be punished and girls should be given warning by Police to dress in a nmodest way and be away from such places at nights. this is a lesson for the parents also who have let free their daughters to enjoy in the night time. May be their parents enjoying with others and have no time to look after their grown up kids. Shame on every one.

Bengaluru, Jul 9: Alarmed over surging COVID-19 cases, the Karnataka government has decided to divide this tech city into containment zones to curb the spread of the pandemic, a state minister said on Thursday.

"The city will be divided into red, orange and yellow zones in commensurate with the number of Covid cases in them for containing the virus spread on war footing," Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J.C. Madhuswamy told reporters here.

Cabinet ministers representing assembly segments in the city will be in-charge of the zones to ensure the cases are curbed with strict enforcement of lockdown guidelines, especially wearing mask and maintaining social distancing by the people in the confinement areas.

"Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has convened a meeting of ministers, MLAs, MPs and corporators of all the 198 civic wards across the city on Friday to discuss and draw an action plan to contain the pandemic," said Madhuswamy.

With 1,148 positive cases, the city''s Covid tally rose to 12,509 and active to 10,103, while 2,228 were discharged, including 418 on Wednesday, while 177 succumbed to the infection since March 9, with 23 in the last 24 hours.

"The Chief Minister ordered deploying more ambulances in the containment areas where cases have been spiking daily to rush Covid patients to the nearest hospital for immediate treatment," said Madhuswamy.

The city civic corporation -- Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) --has increased the containment zones to 3,181 due to more cases spiking, with southern and western suburbs accounting for most infections.

"The containment zones are concentrated more in the city''s southern and western suburbs. Active cases doubled over the last 8 days and shot up to a whopping 12,509 from 4,555 on June 30," an official said.

Refuting graft charges by opposition Congress leader Siddaramaiah in the purchase of medical equipment for treatment of Covid patients, Madhuswamy said the state government had not spent more than Rs 600 crore so far.

"We are running a government. Not a private office. We will give account. He (Siddaramaiah) is welcome to check the accounts and verify the documents," asserted the minister.

In a related development, the cabinet also approved an ordinance to increase the state contingency fund to Rs 500 crore from Rs 80 crore for the Covid-19 induced economic relief measures announced by the chief minister in June.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: Janata Dal-Secular leader and former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday accused the central government of writing off loans of those who are facing charges of fraud.

In a series of tweets, Kumaraswamy slammed the central government.

"Really? At a time when the whole world is worried about unprecedented economic emergency, writing off Rs 68,000 crore loans of willful big fish defaulters became the best antidote to the economic crisis? And how is 50k cr package to mutual funds going to help the common man?" he tweeted.

In another tweet, Kumaraswamy said that "Billionaire scamsters like Vijay Mallya, Mehul Choksy, Sanjay Junjunwala seem to be very dear to this government".

"Na khaunga, na khane dunga" is yet another jumla unraveled. Billionaire scamsters like Vijay Malya, Mehul Choksy, Sanjay Junjunwala seem to be very dear to this government. The poor are dying by the roadside, farmers are desperate, the middle class is faced with economic doom.

The government has done little to help. But it writes off loans of those who are facing charges of fraud! What patriotism! What nationalism!" he tweeted.
