Beware of fake social media accounts of ISRO chief K Sivan

Bengaluru, Sept 9: Indian Space Research Organisation on Monday clarified that its chairman K Sivan has no personal account on any social media platforms.

"It has been noted that social media accounts in the name of Kailasavadivoo Sivan (along with photographs of K. Sivan) is operational and active on social media platforms. This is to clarify that K. Sivan, Chairman, ISRO does not have any personal account on any social media platforms," the ISRO said in a statement.

ISRO chairman's full name is Dr Kailasavadivoo Sivan.

The space agency also asserted that any information spread using these accounts in Sivan's name should be ignored as they are "not authentic".

As people across the world are hailing the ISRO chief and scientists for Chandrayaan-2 mission, some social media users have created fake Twitter and Instagram accounts in the name of ISRO and Sivan, after the space agency lost connection with the lander Vikram on September 7.

After the developments, hundreds of people on social media fell for the fake accounts with one amassing over 50,000 followers while another had over 40,000.
The ISRO informed that the three official accounts of the ISRO on social media platforms are as follows: https://www.twitter.com/isro, https://www.facebook.com/ISRO and Youtube ISRO Official.

Bengaluru, May 31: The coronavirus related fatalities in Karnataka rose to 49 with the death of a 47-year-old woman while 141 new coronavirus cases were confirmed on Saturday taking the infection tally to 2,922, Karnataka minister S Suresh Kumar said.

Among the fresh cases, 90 are inter-state passengers, he told reporters.

The deceased woman from Bidar was admitted on May 24 and died on May 28 at a designated hospital in Bidar, Kumar, minister for primary and secondary education and spokesperson for Covid-19 in the state, said.

The woman was diagnosed with influenza like illness with a history of paralysis and was bed-ridden besides having hypertension and convulsions, Kumar said.

According to him, the total cases include 997 discharges, 1,874 active cases, 49 Covid-19 deaths and two non-Covid related deaths.

Of the total active cases, 15 are in the ICU, he added.

The new cases comprise 33 in Bengaluru, 18 in Yadagir, 14 in Dakshina Kannada, 13 each in Udupi and Hassan, 11 in Vijayapura, 10 in Bidar, six in Shivamogga, four each in Davangere and Haveri, three in Kolar, two each in Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Uttara Kannada, Dharwad, and one each in Belagavi, Chitradurga, Tumakuru and Bengaluru Rural, the health department said in its bulletin.

The minister said the government has issued an order regarding relaxation of curfew on Sundays.

According to the order issued by Chief Secretary T M Vijay Bhaskar, there will not be any curfew on Sundays throughout the day following requests from people.

As per the previous order, curfew was from 7 am to 7 pm on Sundays.

Kalaburagi, Mar 14: Utter negligence of Kalaburagi health department officials was one of the main reasons for the death of his father, alleged family member of Kalaburagi man and India's first COVID-19 victim here on Friday.

The victim's son said 'if officials of Kalaburagi health department had advised us to admit his father in isolated ward, which was opened in Gulbarga Institute of Medical science (GIMS), my father's survival time may have been extended,' he said.

Mangaluru, Feb 12: More than 7,000 people at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) and over 1,000 at the New Mangalore Port (NMP) have undergone thermal screening for the novel coronavirus in the past few days, a taluk health official said on Wednesday.

A few more ships are scheduled to arrive at the port and all precautionary measures to check the ship’s passengers and crew are ready, he said.

Soon after a positive case of deadly pathogen surfaced in Kerala, the district health officials here actively started monitoring all entry points in the bordering district. 

Apart from Mangaluru, there is bus connectivity to Puttur, Sullia, Bantwal, Dharmasthala and Subrahmanya from Kerala. More than eight to 10 trains arrive at Mangaluru daily from Kerala.

Hence, it is impossible to take up screening of all the vehicles arriving from Kerala, sources in District Health and Family Welfare said.
