Bharti must be sacked: BJP

Sack-law-ministerNew Delhi, Jan 23: Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti must be sacked, BJP today said as pressure mounted on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for action against his controversial ministerial colleague.

"...Somnath Bharti must be sacked. He has got no moral constitutional right to remain in office even for a moment," BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad said a day after an African woman identified him as allegedly heading a group of assaulters in a mid-night raid in south Delhi.

Bharti was involved in a row with the police last week when they refused to raid an alleged drug and prostitution racket.

One of the African women, who recorded her statement before a magistrate, had said she identified Bharti as having led the group that barged into her house and attacked them.

Various women rights activists and Delhi Commission for Women have sought action against Bharti for allegedly taking law into his hands.

Prasad also alleged match-fixing between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress, which is giving outside support to the Kejriwal government, to stop Narendra Modi's journey to the Prime Minister's post.

"I would say there is a fixed match between AAP and the Congress party to somehow stop Narendra Modi. ...But I could never imagine the bubble of aam aadmi would burst soon," said Prasad, who is deputy leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha.

Hubli, Jul 12: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Sunday said that the Monsoon session of Parliament will be held with the government ensuring all health precautions for COVID-19 are followed.

"Monsoon session (of Parliament) will certainly be held. The government will do all the formalities and take all precautions," the Parliamentary Affairs Minister told reporters here.

Earlier in March, the Parliament had passed 12 bills during the curtailed budget session with Lok Sabha passing 15 bills and Rajya Sabha 13.
During the session, 19 bills were introduced in the two Houses (18 in Lok Sabha and 1 in Rajya Sabha). The two Houses were adjourned sine die after completion of the budgetary process including passage of the Finance Bill.

The second part of the session was curtailed in view of the threat of the spread of coronavirus.
On June 1, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had held a detailed discussion on holding the ensuing monsoon session of Parliament in view of the coronavirus-induced norm of social distancing, sources said.

They said the leaders have taken note of reports suggesting that the fight against COVID-19 is likely to be a long haul.

Indore, Jan 24: Around 80 Muslim leaders of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh on Friday resigned from the primary membership of the party in protest over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, calling it a "divisive" measure.

One of the leaders, Rajik Qureshi Farshiwala, said around 80 Muslim partymen have resigned from the BJP's primary membership after writing to the newly-appointed national president, J P Nadda, on Thursday.

These leaders, who dubbed the CAA "a divisive provision made on religious grounds", include several office- bearers of the BJP's minority cell, he said.

"It was becoming increasingly difficult for us to participate in our community's events after the CAA came into existence (in December 2019).

"At these events, people used to curse us and ask us how long we plan to keep quiet on a divisive law like the CAA?" he said.

"Persecuted refugees of any community should get Indian citizenship. You cannot decide that a particular person is an intruder or a terrorist merely on the basis of religion," Farshiwala added.

In their letter, the Muslim leaders stated, "Citizens have right to equality under Article 14 of the Indian Constitution. But the BJP-led Central Government is implementing the CAA on religious grounds.

"This is an act of dividing the country and against the basic spirit of the Constitution."

Some of the leaders who have resigned are considered close to BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya.

When asked about the development, Vijayvargiya on Thursday evening said, "I am not aware of the matter. But we will explain (about the CAA) if a person is being misled."
