Udupi, Aug 12: The emergence of two eyebrow-raising videos that show how the investigation officer accorded a royal treatment' to the two main accused in NRI businessman Bhaskar Shetty murder case has damaged the credibility of Udupi police.

murderer

The first video footage clearly shows that Manipal Inspector of Police S.V. Girish, who was the Investigation Officer in this mysterious case, treated the two prime accused in the murder- Rajeshwari Shetty and Navneeth Shetty-with great respect.

The video shows that the inspector allowed Navneeth to sit in the front seat of the jeep, where the former had to sit.

As soon as this video started going viral on social and Udupi district in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj brought the matter to the notice of State home minister, the inspector was shifted out of the probe team and Assistant Superintendent of Police, D P Sumana was appointed as the Investigation Officer.

Taken to restaurant

Meanwhile, another controversial CCTV footage has surfaced wherein cops take Rajeshwari and Navneeth to a bar-attached restaurant in Nitte and allow them to take rest there.

Though this incident took place a couple of days ago when the duo was taken to Nanadalike village for crime spot investigation, the video was leaked on Friday.

Meanwhile, Mr Madhwaraj has written to Home Minister G. Parameshwara, urging him to hand over the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

DNA report awaited

52-year-old Bhaskar Shetty, who owned business establishments in Udupi and Saudi Arabia, went missing from his house here on July 28. His mother, Gulabi Shetty, lodged a missing complaint in the Manipal police station on July 29.

While several rumours were doing the rounds, things took a dramatic turn when Bhaskar Shetty's relative, Joggu Shetty, said he strongly suspected the businessman's wife Rajeshwari (46), their son Navneet (24) and a priest Niranjan Bhat (25) to be involved in the case. On August 7, the police arrested Rajeshwari and Navneet on the charge of murdering Bhaskar Shetty and destroying evidence.

While they arrested Niranjan in Nitte on August 8, he attempted suicide by consuming his diamond ring and a pair of earrings. He is at Kasturba Hospital in Manipal.

On August 10, the police arrested Srinivas Bhat (55), Niranjan's father, and Raghava (35), Niranjan's driver, at Nandalike on the charge of destruction of evidence.

Meanwhile, the police have taken samples from the yagna kund' in Niranjan's house where Bhat allegedly burnt the dead body of Bhaskar Shetty. They have also recovered a few bones from the rivulet at Palli, which have been sent for DNA test.

Bengaluru, Feb 5: The Karnataka government on Tuesday launched the Janasevaka scheme in a few municipal corporation wards to ensure home delivery of various services like ration cards, senior citizen identity and health cards.

The scheme, which was launched by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, will pertain to 53 services involving 11 departments.

"Janasevaka under the Sakala scheme is a programme to avail the benefits of government schemes at the doorstep. Our objective is to make the lives of the citizens of Karnataka easy by launching this scheme," the Chief Minister said. Sakala aims to ensure in-time delivery of government services to citizens by practising innovative and efficient management systems through capacity building in government and empowering citizens to exercise their right to service.

Minister for Sakala and Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar said: "The scheme that was implemented in Dasarahalli area on a pilot basis will now be extended to Mahadevapura, Bommanahalli and Rajajinagar areas."

He added that it will benefit the senior citizens of the city.

If the scheme works well, it will be implemented across Bengaluru in all the 27 assembly segments, Kumar said, adding that based on the experiment in Bengaluru, it will be extended to Mysuru, Mangaluru and Hubballi-Dharwad.

Under the scheme, there will be one volunteer in each ward. These volunteers have been outsourced. A toll-free helpline has been set up for this scheme which will work from 8 am to 8 pm.

A sum of Rs 115 will be charged to provide the home delivery services.

In addition to it, the Karnataka government has also decided to seek information under the RTI Act easy by making it online.

People can apply from home by paying the fee online. This will make the process hassle-free, the Chief Minister said.

Bengaluru, Mar 11: The move by rebel ruling Congress MLAs in Madhya Pradesh to trigger the crisis for the party's government in the state appears to have been in the making for at least close to a month as Karnataka BJP leaders were sounded about hosting them in Bengaluru in advance, sources said.

They also indicated that the 19 rebel MLAs would stay in the city for at least two weeks till an alternative government takes charge in Madhya Pradesh.

A senior Karnataka BJP leader, in charge of the Madhya Pradesh legislators' stay in Bengaluru, received a communication from the party's central leaders about the move nearly 15-20 days ago, the sources involved in the development said on condition of anonymity on Tuesday.

The leader had even gone to New Delhi in the third week of February to meet BJP's central leaders in this regard, they said.

In a massive setback for the Congress, its prominent youth leader Jyotiradtya Scindia quit the party and in a coordinated rebellion on Tuesday 21 MLAs loyal to him resigned in Madhya Pradesh, pushing the 15-month-old Kamal Nath government to the brink of collapse.

As many as 19 Madhya Pradesh MLAs, including six ministers, said to be loyalists of Mr Scindia who appeared set to join BJP, are camping at a resort in Bengaluru. Two of them are women, the sources said.

The MLAs on Tuesday sent their resignation letters via e-mail to Raj Bhavan in Bhopal from Bengaluru.

According to the sources, eight legislators, including an independent, have been staying in the city for about a week now. Of them two - one from Congress and the other an independent MLA - had gone back.

The six were joined by 13 legislators, who landed in the city by a chartered flight on Monday, and all of them are put up in a villa.

The senior Karnataka BJP leader, also an MLA, is looking after their stay and related arrangements on the directions of the party high command, the sources said. Their stay here may be for a couple of weeks.

"There will be a no-confidence motion, and then there will be a trust vote of the new alternative government that will be formed. So they may have to stay here for some time. They may be moved out of their current location," they said.

The Madhya Pradesh legislature session is expected to begin on March 16.

The sources also said the six legislators staying in the city since last week were shifted a couple of times within the city.

Congress in Madhya Pradesh, under the leadership of Kamal Nath, had come to power in December 2018 by ousting the BJP by a narrow margin.
