Udupi, Aug 14: Murdered businessman Bhaskar Shetty's mother Gulabi Shetty has urged the police to take her daughter-in-law Rajeshwari Shetty's two close relatives into custody for their alleged involvement in the case.

Gulabi Shetty, has claimed that Rajeshwari's brother-in-law also called Bhaskar Shetty and nephew Balakrishna Shetty might have involved in the conspiracy to kill her son, who owned business establishments in Saudi Arabia and Udupi.

The elderly woman also requested the police to the call records of these two persons from July 28 to August 7, so that they can get a clear picture of their alleged involvement.

In a memorandum forwarded to Shobha Karandlaje, MP of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency, and to Oscar Fernandes, Congress leader and Rajya Sabha, she has demanded investigation by the CID or by an experienced officer citing the inefficiency of the police.

Police have so far arrested five accused in the case: Bhaskar Shetty's wife Rajeshwari Shetty, their son Navneeth Shetty, their astrologer friend Niranjan Bhat, his father Krishna Bhat, and accomplice Raghavendra.

KT Balakrishna, superintendent of police, Udupi visited the crime spot at Nandilakke on Saturday. He said, "The investigating team has taken Niranjan Bhat for mahajar in the area where the body was burnt. There are three teams working on the case and collecting circumstantial evidence."

Sources said Rajeshwari, prior to the murder, purchased pepper spray from Radha Medicals, a pharmacy near Udupi bus stand on July 27. She went to the medical shop with two persons. Police took the CCTV footage from the medical shop. Police are trying to ascertain the identity of the two persons seated in the car.

It is also said that police managed to trace the clothes which the accused wore during the crime. The blood-stained clothes, which had been given to a laundry, gave police some clues.

Bengaluru, May 11: As many as 343 Indians returned to Bengaluru from London by a special Air India flight on the fifth day of 'Vande Bharat Mission' on Monday. They arrived at the Kempegowda international airport at 4.40 am.

All passengers were found to be asymptomatic on arrival except one 27-year-old woman who had had an incomplete abortion and had vomiting on arrival. She has been shifted to KC General Hospital in Malleshwaram.

Dr Prabhu Dev Gowda, an officer on duty for COVID-19 screening at Kempegowda International Airport, said, "A 27-year-old woman has had an incomplete abortion of her three-month-old foetus before taking the flight from London. She was vomiting on arrival. She was shifted to Aster CMI Hospital for emergency care.”

“Thereafter, she and her husband were shifted to KC General Hospital in Malleshwaram. They will be in isolation there. Since there is nobody to look after her, we have to let the husband accompany her to the hospital where they will be in quarantine."

The patient was famished and was provided a few idlis on arrival, he added.

After she recovers at the hospital, the couple will be shifted to a hotel. As per protocol, their throat swabs were taken for COVID-19 testing too. All passengers whether symptomatic or not are being tested for COVID-19.

Dr Manjula Devi, District Health Officer, Bengaluru Rural district said that all passengers were found to be asymptomatic on arrival except this woman who is being treated as a non-COVID-19 emergency.

Ajith Rai, Devanahalli Tehsildar told DH, "All passengers have chosen to go to hotels over government hostels. We're yet to tabulate how many have chosen budget hotels, three-star and five-star hotels. Twenty of them are still here. The process is on."

A 7-year-old Dalit girl who had gone missing from outside her residence in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai district on June 30 was found dead last evening.

Police sources said that the body with severe injures was found in a forest area bordering her village. The young girl had been sexually assaulted before the murder, according to police.

Victim’s neighbour, Raja, 25, who belongs to the Pandaram caste, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

While they have included murder charges in the First Information Report (FIR) against him, they are awaiting the post-mortem report to add sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offence Act (POCSO act) in the FIR.

"The girl was playing outside her home at 4pm. Her parents then found her missing and her father filed a complaint at the station at around 7pm. Efforts were then underway to find the girl," said an investigating official.

They found the minor's body in the forest area near her village on the evening of July 1. Her clothes were in a state of disarray and her face was severely injured.

"She has been beaten with sticks on the face and injuries are clearly visible. The post-mortem will reveal the actual cause of death," says an official from the district.

Police sources further add that the neighbour had found the minor roaming around the area on Wednesday and allegedly took advantage of the fact that she was alone.

"During inquiry he admitted that he had sexually assaulted and murdered the girl," says a police official from the district. "Further investigation is underway and we will have more clarity once we get the post mortem report," he adds.
