New Delhi/ Bengaluru, Aug 27: Senior Bharataiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday said former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is illiterate like Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

Swamy made this comment when asked about Hooda's demand of President Rule in Haryana and dismissal of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar after more than 30 persons died in the violence that erupted after conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case.

Talking to ANI BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that Hooda is making such statement because he is powerless and illiterate.

"He is saying such things because he is powerless now. President Rule cannot be imposed so easily. As per the Supreme Court's Bombay judgement, there are certain rules to impose President rule. Hooda ji is illiterate like Rahul Gandhi. He should once read the Bombay judgement then demand such things," Swamy said.

Another BJP leader S. Prakash said that Hooda should not make politically motivated statement instead should assist government in restoring normalcy in the state.

"Hooda should also explain that during his period Dera Sacha Sauda gained lot of popularity. He is also responsible for the violence. He is demanding President Rule and dismissal of Khattar government, but this is not the solution. He should join hands with the government to bring back the glory of Haryana," he told ANI.

The former Harayana chief minister on Saturday said that the violence that erupted in Haryana after the Dera Sacha Sauda chief's verdict, could have been avoided and asked the State Government to resign.

Addressing the media, Hooda said that he has never seen such kind of ruckus in a government and asked the BJP-led Haryana Government to resign on "moral grounds".

Hooda further said, "If they don't resign then the Centre must impose President's Rule here."

Hooda also said that people have lost faith in Khattar government, adding, "There is no law and order in the state. It feels like that there is no government in Haryana."

More than 30 people were killed, including two women and a child, and over 250 injured as violence erupted in Haryana and Punjab on Friday after the Dera Sacha Sauda chief was convicted in the rape case.

The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on August 28.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 25: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday asked the state's MPs to take up the matter of deaths of eight Keralites at a resort in Nepal early this week, with the Centre to pursue the matter with the neighbouring country's government.

He was speaking to the MPs at the customary meeting that the Chief Minister has with all MPs ahead of every session of the parliament.

"The demand has come from the families of the victims for a fair probe on what happened and adequate compensation. For this, you (MPs) should take it up with the Centre. A probe has to be done by the Nepal authorities and the Centre should pursue this with them," Pinarayi reportedly stated.

"We (the state government) have already taken the issue with the Centre and will now send a detailed letter on the need for a fair probe by the Nepal authorities," he added.

The eight dead include Praveen Krishnan Nair, who worked in the UAE and was on a short vacation here, when the tragedy struck the family. His wife Saranya, a second year M.Pharma student, and their three children, were also killed.

On Friday morning, it was a goodbye that Thiruvananthapuram has perhaps not seen before, as hundreds of people, many of them strangers, came to pay last respects to the five members of the Nair family.

The family of Praveen Nair decided to bury the bodies of the three children and cremate the bodies of Praveen and Saranya. It was also decided to bury the ashes of the couple alongside their three children in the compound of their house.

The second family hailed from Kozhikode and the bodies of Ranjith, an IT professional, his wife, who works in a cooperative bank and their younger child, who slept in the same room as that of Praveen, arrived at the Kozhikode airport on Friday morning.

State Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran and many others were there to receive the bodies, which were first taken to Ranjith's new home that is almost complete.

From there it was taken to a hall for all to pay their last respects and then to the family home of Ranjith where the cremation took place.

Watching everything happening was Ranjith's elder son, seven-year-old Madhav, who escaped that night in Nepal as he was sleeping in another room.

Madhav had arrived from Delhi on Thursday and was unaware of the tragedy as he was busy moving around in a new bicycle, which his relatives had bought to keep him busy.

New Delhi, Jan 7: A fringe right-wing group calling itself the Hindu Raksha Dal has purportedly taken responsibility for the attack on students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in a video posted on social media.

The video, which was posted on social media on Monday and has gone viral since then, shows a man identifying himself as Pinki Chaudhary saying that those who resort  to “anti-national activities” will be treated in the same way that JNU students and faculty were.

He later told news channels that others involved in "anti-national activities" would face similar attacks.

There was no immediate reaction from the police on Chaudhury's claims.

“For several years, JNU has been a bastion of communists and we will not tolerate it. Hindu Raksha Dal, Bhupendra Tomar, Pinki Chaudhury take the responsibility of what has happened in JNU...all of them were our volunteers. Those who cannot do such work for Mother India don't have the right to live in this country,” Chaudhary is seen saying in the video.

“We are always ready to sacrifice our lives for Mother India. We will not tolerate anyone who speaks against the religion,” he added.

Efforts to reach the man were unsuccessful: his phone was switched off.

More than 35 students were injured Sunday when a masked mob went on the rampage, attacking students and professors and vandalising property. The JNUSU has accused the RSS-affiliated ABVP volunteers of attacking the students.
