Bidar bypolls: Rahim Khan from Cong, his nephew Ayaz Khan from JD(S), Khandre from BJP

Bidar, Jan 27: Battle lines for the by elections in Bidar Assembly constituency have been drawn, with major political parties finalizing their candidates. The former MLAs Rahim Khan of the Congress and Prakash Khandre of the BJP will file nomination papers for the bypolls on Wednesday.

bidarAyaz Khan, who quit the Congress to join the Janata Dal (Secular) on Monday, will be fielded by his new party. Vaijanath Madana, former District Health and Family Welfare Officer, has filed his nomination papers from the Bahujan Samaj Party.

The two Khans are related. Ayaz Khan, who runs the Noor group of institutions, is a nephew of Rahim Khan who runs the Roohi group of institutions.

Ayaz Khan was an office-bearer in the Minority Department of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee before joining the Janata Dal(S) in Bengaluru. He was also associated with the Bidar unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party for some time.

The former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and other leaders will be present when Prakash Khandre will file his nomination papers on Wednesday. The former president of the district unit of the BJP has represented Bhalki for two terms.

He defeated the Khandre brothers, his cousins and political rivals, in 1999 and 2004. Vijay Kumar Khandre, son of Bheemanna Khandre, former Minister and former president of Akhil Bharat Veerashaiva Mahasabha, lost his seat to Prakash Khandre in 1999.

Vijay Kumar Khandre’s brother Eshwar Khandre was defeated in 2004. In turn, Eshwar Khandre defeated Prakash Khandre in 2008. Prakash Khandre was relegated to the third spot in 2013, with Eshwar Khandre winning the polls.

Prakash Khandre says that he knows the territory well as a part of Bidar Assembly constituency was included in the Bhalki constituency before the delimitation of 2008.

The Bahujan Samaj Party has had considerable influence in Bidar. In 1994, Syed Zulfikar Hashmi was among the first BSP MLAs from South India. In 2008, Rahim Khan contested on BSP ticket only to lose to Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli of the Congress by around 3,000 votes.

The second in the series of chartered flights arranged by Thumbay Group, UAE and the Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) Trust, Mangalore to repatriate stranded Kannadigas in the UAE took off from Ras Al Khaimah International Airport on 25th July 2020. The flight was fully occupied with 178 passengers including the sick and elderly as well as those in need of urgent medical attention due to chronic illnesses, pregnant ladies and kids. Passengers also included those facing visa issues and job losses.

Implemented under the leadership of Dr. Thumbay Moideen - Founder President of Thumbay Group & Founder Patron of BCF and Dr. B K Yusuf - President of BCF, these repatriation flights are organized on a purely charitable basis, with all necessary steps and precautions in place to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers. 

Thumbay Group assigned its fleet of buses to transport the passengers free of charge from their residences in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman to the airport. The organizers also provided free meals and refreshments to the passengers, in addition to PPE kits and face-shields distributed free of charges. 

Dr. B K Yusuf – BCF President, Dr. Kaup Mohammed - BCF General Secretary, other office bearers of BCF, as well as Thumbay Group’s representatives Mr. Farhad C – Director of the 
Hospitality Division of Thumbay Group and Engr. Farwaz P. C. – COO of the Construction Division were present at the airport to see off the second group of passengers. 

ARISTOCRAT Travels supported the ticketing, boarding and related processes for the passengers. Support 
was also extended by social organizations including Bhatkal Jamath, Bhatkal association, BCCI, BWF, DKSC, KNRI, Kannadiga Help Line, KDKGS-UAE, Dubai Konkans, KSS and Dubai 
Kannadigas.

The passengers were received at Mangalore airport under the leadership of Mr. Mumtaz Ali - patron of BCF and other distinguished personalities of Mangalore including Mr. B. M. Farookh - Hon. MLC, Mr. Moidin Bava - former MLA, Mr. U. T. Ifthikhar, Mr. S. M. R. Rashid - President of 
BCCI central committee etc.The passengers were transferred to the hotels where they had registered for the mandatory quarantine.

The first flight in the series, with 186 passengers had taken off on 21st July 2020. The next flight under this joint initiative is scheduled to take-off from Ras Al Khaimah airport to Mangalore on 10th August 2020. A few more similar repatriation flights are to soon follow, in the coming weeks.

Mangaluru, Jul 24: Low-cost airline IndiGo airlines would be operating between Mumbai and Mangaluru four days a week - Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The operation will begin today (July 24).

The flight will take off from Mumbai at 9.30 am and will land at Mangaluru International Airport at 11.00 am. 

The flight will take off from Mangaluru at 11.40 am and will reach Mumbai at 1.15 pm. To avail the flights for Mangaluru, passengers can report to Terminal T2 in Mumbai.

Before boarding the flight, a standard procedure regarding quarantine regulation has been issued. The passengers boarding the flight from Mumbai will have to undergo thermal screening at the airport. The airport officials will also be required to apply a quarantine stamp on the passengers.

The airline will be required to provide a detailed list of passengers arriving, along with flight information, arrival time, mobile number of the passengers and their residential addresses and share these with the nodal officer.

It is mandatory for the passengers to download Aarogya Setu app. In addition to this, passengers intending to exit Mumbai within seven days of the arrival should be able to produce a confirmed ticket for onward/return journey to get quarantine exemption.

Domestic passengers will have to undergo 14 days of home quarantine. However, all domestic passengers intending to exit Mumbai within seven days of the arrival will be exempted from quarantine, provided they are able to produce a confirmed ticket for onward/return journey.

Bengaluru, May 19: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has begun booking of tickets from May 18. Ticket counters have been opened after implementation of new guidelines for the fourth phase of COVID-19 nationwide lockdown.

People seeking to travel can book the tickets through KSRTC booking counters, authorised franchises booking counters and online, mobile booking, according to a release.

The advanced booking has started for Bengaluru-Shivamogga, Bengaluru-Mysuru, Bengaluru-Mangaluru routes, among others.

Bookings can be made upto 30 days in advance, as per the release.

Amid COVID-19, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation has restricted the operation services of the bus between 7 AM to 7 PM, said the release.

Passengers are permitted to travel with social distancing measures while the transport corporation will follow the standard operating procedure issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The MHA had issued updated guidelines after the implementation of the fourth phase of nationwide lockdown on May 17th.
