Big B, Kangana receive National Awards

May 4, 2016

New Delhi, May 4: Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan was on Tuesday accompanied by his family members to the 63rd National Film Awards ceremony here, where the megastar received the best actor honour for his role of a hypochondriac father in Piku.

Actor Kangana Ranaut too turned up with her father, mother, sister and brother to receive the best actress award for Tanu Weds Manu Returns.

Kangana

Veteran film actor and director Manoj Kumar was given the 47th Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Known for featuring in films with patriotic themes, Manoj Kumar presented a Sai Baba idol to President Pranab Mukherjee.

The 78-year-old looked frail in a wheelchair, but was in high spirits as he waved to the cheering crowd when he got on to the stage. The President honoured the cine icon, whose career began in 1957.

A five-member jury — Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Salim Khan, Nitin Mukesh and Anup Jalota — unanimously recommended Manoj Kumar for the prestigious award this year.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is given by the government of India for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema. The award consists of a Swarn Kamal (Golden Lotus), a cash prize of Rs.10 lakh and a shawl.

Bachchan’s moment

It was Big B’s fourth National award. His son Abhishek Bachchan, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, wife Jaya Bachchan and daughter Shweta Nanda turned up at the ceremony to cheer for the actor. His previous National awards were for his performances in Agneepath, Black and Paa. One of the most sought-after stars in Bollywood, the actor will next be seen in Te3n and Shoojit Sircar’s Pink.

Kangana’s father ‘proud’

Kangana’s father Amardeep Ranaut said it was a proud moment to see his daughter receive her third National Award from the President. “I am very happy. I am a proud father and it is a matter of great pride,” Mr. Ranaut said.

The 29-year-old actor stood out in a pink off-shoulder gown from Beirut-based Lebanese designer Georges Chakra. Kangana teamed her gown with a classic bob, which is similar to the look she will be seen sporting in her upcoming film Rangoon.

Unlike the traditional attire opted by Indian celebrities for such events, Kangana usually goes for international couture. She had opted for a dusty pink gown by India-born designer Bibhu Mohapatra at the 2014 National Awards where she was honoured for her role in Queen. Her first National award was in the best supporting actress category for Fashion. Underlining unity: Pranab

Lauding film-makers for making movies that truly reflect Indian character, President Mukherjee said India had never allowed divergence to create disunity as its people always found unity.

“We did never believe in exclusion, always in inclusion. We did never allow divergence to create disunity. We celebrated divergence because it always finds an underlining unity,” he said.

He expressed his gratefulness to Indian cinema and its doyens from past to present who are also contributing to make “Indian films truly reflective of Indian character of unity amidst diversity.”

Mr. Mukherjee also noted that the Indian film industry, though it has had its ups and downs, has made progress technologically and was also doing well financially.

The President said he had learnt that the domestic revenues of the film industry have risen to Rs. 138 billion in 2015, up from Rs. 126 billion the year before. Even the overseas revenues have grown from Rs. 8.6 billion in 2014 to Rs. 9.6 billion in 2015.

“I am very happy that this time there are a lot of newcomers, who have won awards and what makes it more special is that there are legends, living legends, like Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, who have been honoured too,” the President said.

Mr. Mukherjee said he sometimes marvelled at the varieties of Indian films, adding that managing India in itself was a challenge as it is country with 1.2 billion people who everyday speak 122 languages, 1,800 dialects, follow seven religions and belong to three major ethnic groups. It is a huge diversity living as one administrative system, under one Constitution and one national flag, he said.

Chennai, Mar 12: Superstar Rajinikanth on Thursday clarified that he never aspired to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and said his plans for politics include different heads for his prospective party and a possible government headed by it.

In his first official press conference since December 31, 2017, when he announced to take the political plunge, the veteran star also said he planned to appoint as CM, an educated youth who was compassionate and had self-respect.

With a two-leadership system for party and the government, the former would act as an "opposition" to highlight issues and would not even hesitate to "remove", apparently the head of the government, if it fails to perform, he said.

His prospective party would focus on including a substantial amount of youngsters in the age group of below 45 years while the rest would comprise retired judges and IAS and IPS officials among others.

"I myself would reach out to them and invite them," to join him, the 69-year-old actor said.

Contrary to expectations, he however, did not make a concrete statement on floating his party but called for an "uprising" by youth, after which he would make his formal political entry.

Los Angeles, May 24: Filmmaker Frank Marshall, one of the producers behind Jurassic World: Dominion, says the forthcoming film is not a conclusion of the franchise.

Colin Trevorrow, who rebooted Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Jurassic Park franchise with 2015's Jurassic World, is back on the director's chair after sitting out on second movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018).

Asked about the upcoming movie, Marshall told Collider: "It's the start of a new era."

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are coming back for the third film, which will also feature original stars of 1993's Jurassic Park -- Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill.

The producer also revealed how he sees the film franchise extending into the future.

"The dinosaurs are now on the mainland amongst us, and they will be for quite some time, I hope," Marshall said.

The film was three weeks into production when it was shut down over coronavirus concerns, but the producer said the team has the sets built in London and will be "back in business" once they have guidelines from the British government.

Dominion is still slated to be released on its scheduled date of June 11, 2021.

Washington, May 19: Actors Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox are going their separate ways after 10 years of marriage.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 46-year-old Green, on Monday announced the news during an episode of his podcast 'With Brian Austin Green' where he emotionally opened up about the breakup with Fox.

The 'Beverly Hills 90210' star revealed that they simply grew distant at the end of last year while Fox was away shooting a film.

Green recalled Fox saying during the conversation they had after she returned from filming, "She said, 'I realised when I was out of the country working alone that I feel more like myself, and I liked myself better during that experience and I think that might be something worth trying for me.'"

Though feeling "shocked" and "upset" at first, Green admitted that he couldn't be upset with her for being honest.

He said, "Neither one of us did anything to each other. She's always been honest with me. I've always been honest with her. We've had an amazing relationship. I will always love her. And I know she will always love me and I know as far as a family what we have built is really cool and really special."

The 'Impact Point' star shared that they intend to "still do family vacations and holidays as a family and really make that a focus for the kids."

Green went on to say that it's hard to adjust to the change and he doesn't want himself and Fox to "be at odds": "She's been my best friend for 15 years and I don't want to lose that."

He added: "There's this sense of loss of, 'How do I go on with this big part of my life that I've always known and loved and shared changing?' What does that landscape look like? What does that life look like?' ... Megan and I talked a lot about it, and it's a big concern for both of us." Aware of the scrutiny around their age difference, Green defended Fox, saying "she's really a responsible person. ... She really loves the kids and cares about what their life and their experience is."

The couple share three children together 7-year-old Noah, 6-year-old Bodhi, and 3-year-old Journey, and Green said that they are only concerned about controlling how the separation will truly affect their children.

After photos circulated online of Fox and Machine Gun Kelly, whose real name is Colson Baker, hanging out -- Fox and Baker are co-stars in the upcoming film, 'Midnight in the Switchgrass,' Green said Fox and Baker are "just friends at this point."

He said, "She met this guy, Colson, on set. I've never met him. Megan and I have talked about him. I trust her judgment; she's always had really good judgment."

Green emphasised that despite what tabloids can say, he didn't want the public to categorise Fox and Baker as "villains or that I was a victim in any way."

Fox and Green started dating in 2004 and married in 2010. Fox had filed for divorce from Green in 2015, but the couple later reconciled.
