Bengaluru, Aug 19: The Karnataka BJP has decided to intensify its agitation against the ruling Congress dispensation. At a meeting of the core committee headed by party state president B S Yeddyurappa in Bengaluru, it was decided to take the agitation of the party against the Siddaramaiah government to the Assembly-constituency level.

The party on Friday held a protest in Bengaluru against the state government for shielding “corrupt” ministers, including D K Shivakumar who faced I-T raids recently.

Briefing reporters, BJP State general secretary Aravind Limbavali said the party will organise a “Mangaluru chalo” protest soon demanding the resignation of Forest Minister Ramanath Rai. He charged Rai with supporting Popular Front of India (PFI) and Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD). Limbavali accused the two organisations of involvement in the killing of RSS and BJP functionaries.

BJP national president Amit Shah, during his recent visit to Bengaluru, had expressed his strong displeasure at the lack of aggression in the state unit to take on the ruling Congress. Limbavali said the BJP will pressure the government to announce relief measures to farmers reeling under severe drought. According to sources, the core committee meeting also decided to assign senior leaders three districts each to monitor all party related activities.

The BJP core committee on Friday agreed to the demand of senior party leader K S Eshwarappa and his followers to effect changes in district units of the party by giving preference to party loyalists.

It was decided that senior leaders will undertake a six-day tour of the state from August 20 and later decide on changing district presidents and office bearers wherever the organisational setup is weak, sources said.

Bengaluru, Feb 17: Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah on Monday demanded that forest minister Anand Singh should either be expelled from the Cabinet or assigned a different portfolio.

This comes amid a number of cases, pending against Singh, including those under the Karnataka Forest Act.

"How can we expect justice from Anand Singh who has been made forest minister and is accused of (illegal mining)? We demand that he should either be dropped out of the state Cabinet or at least his portfolio be changed," Siddaramaiah told media.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa allocated portfolios to the 10 newly inducted ministers in his Cabinet.

As part of state Cabinet's expansion, 10 MLAs including Ramesh Jarkiholi, Anand Singh, K Sudhakar, and BA Basavaraja took oath as ministers at Raj Bhawan in Bengaluru on February 6.

Mangaluru, Mar 21: Taking strict measures to contain the spreading of COVID-19, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, who is also District Magistrate, ordered sealing of road connectivity leading to Kerala State for all kinds of traffic from March 21 to midnight of March 31.

No vehicles will be allowed to operate between Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod district in Kerala, the Deputy Commissioner said in a late-night order on Friday.

Ms. Rupesh said that in case of any emergency, vehicles will be allowed only through the Talapady check post on the National Highway 66, which is about 17 km away from Mangaluru city.

The Deputy Commissioner’s order came after the Kasaragod district reported six COVID-19 positive cases on Friday.

The order said that many vehicles operated between Kasaragod in Kerala and Mangaluru and hence, there is a need to take precautionary measures.

Private buses to not ply

Private bus operators in Dakshina Kannada will not operate their buses on March 22 to support the ‘Janata Curfew’ called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dilraj Alva, president, Dakshina Kananda Bus Operators’ Association, said in a release on Friday that people should remain in their homes on Sunday to help contain the community spreading of COVID-19. The decision has been taken in the interest of the public, he said.
