BJP can ask Modi to ban us instead of holding Mangaluru Chalo: SDPI

Mangaluru, Sept 2: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has urged the district administration and police not to give permission for Mangaluru Chalo, which will be organised by the BJP State Yuva Morcha on September 7.

Briefing media persons here on Saturday, SDPI DK district unit president Haneef Khan Kodaje said that the district has just returned to normalcy, after undergoing prohibitory order under IPC Section 144 in Bantwal for nearly two months. 

At this juncture, the Yuva Morcha is organising a rally for political gain, as the Assembly election is fast approaching in Karnataka, he added.

 “If the BJP wants the resignation of District In-charge Minister Ramanath Rai, then the BJP, as an Opposition party, should fight in the Assembly by asserting pressure on the state government. By holding a rally and a meet in one district, the resignation of a minister is not possible,” he said.

Kodaje said that BJP’s demand to ban the PFI and the SDPI cannot be fulfilled if they hold a rally in Mangaluru. “If they have courage, they can assert pressure on the BJP-led Central government to ban them. The demands of the BJP Yuva Morcha are silly,” he said.

Kodaje urged the district administration not to give permission for any rallies or chalo by any political party in Dakshina Kannada for the next one year, to restore peace and harmony in the district.

In reference to Ramanath Rai organising “Samarasyada Nadige” to restore peace in the district, Kodaje called it a political gimmick. “It is true that we had demanded a harmony walk in Bantwal during peace meeting held recently in Mangaluru. Rai should hold such walks by taking all sections of the society.”

Bengaluru, Apr 15: Karnataka and five other states have their coronavirus antibody test kits stuck in China because of the country's new policy of getting clearance from their government before a company exports its products.

Singapore-based Sensing Self Ltd and China’s Wondfo are the only companies that have cleared Pune's National Institute of Virology (NIV)’s validation for rapid antibody test kit.

Dr CN Manjunath, Director, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, and nodal officer for COVID-19 lab testing, Karnataka, said, "Inventory is ready in Hong Kong Airport. Karnataka's consignment is stuck with five other states' consignments: Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Meghalaya. On April 1 or 3, China's policy changed saying any exports going out of China has to be certified by the Chinese government."

As part of the Indian Overseas Congress Mera Bharat Mahaan NRI Series, a Facebook live Global Conference was facilitated by Dr Arathi Krishna, Dy. KPCC NRI Chairman and Mr. Mohammad Mansoor President IOC Bahrain on 30th May, 2020.

In the one and half hour live interaction, questions and answers were addressed by DK Shivakumar, President of PCC Karnataka and attended by hundreds of participants, accumulating an impressive 300K people viewing the live broadcast across the globe.

The event was inaugurated with a welcome address by the inspiring and innovative IOC chairman Sam Pitroda followed by the motivational speech of AICC Secretary Shri Himanshu Vyas, IOC US President Mr. Mohinder Singh Gilzian and former KPCC NRI Dy Chairman Dr. Arathi Krishna by whom Shivakumar was introduced.

The event was remarkably successful with maximum interaction of global congress family members and straight forward answers by Shivakumar. 

He emphasized on the present political issues in India and the Indian government's negligence in handling the crisis related to Covid-19 and the indefinite lockdown. He added at present, that the Congress is playing a frontline, constructive role by addressing and articulating the Covid-19 issues and offering critique-based solutions to the government as a responsible opposition party.

The insightful meeting covered the congress strategy and the rebuilding of the KPCC, as well as discussed counter corrupt and hatred politics of current regime along with the role of constructive opposition, etc.

Gadag, Aug 1: A woman in Gadag district of Karnataka mortgaged her 'mangalsutra' to buy a television set for her children following the Karnataka government's decision to continue the classes through TV amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A resident of Radder Naganur village, Kasturi, who is also a mother of two, purchased a television set against her 'mangalsutra' for Rs 14,000. She bought the TV after her children's school teachers asked them to attend classes via the television set.

Kasturi said, "I can not send the children to the neighbours' house every day and it was necessary for them to study. We had no other option but to buy a TV set."

She said, "Both, my husband and I are daily wage workers and during coronavirus, we do not have work or money."

"I sold my 'mangalsutra' for Rs 20,000 and bought a TV for Rs 14,000," said Kasturi while happily adding, "Now, my kids can study at home itself."

Kasturi's daughter, Surekha said, "We did not have the TV for several months but now when we have it, we will study and get a bigger 'mangalsutra' for my mother."
