BJP central leaders back Yediyurappa: BSY regime will be stable, says Amit Shah

New Delhi, Jul 27: Ending speculation that the party high command had differences over backing B S Yediyurappa to make another shot at running a coalition regime in Karnataka, the BJP central leaders backed the new dispensation and hoped it will herald a 'new dawn' for the state.

"Congrats to BS Yediyurappa, newly sworn in CM of Karnataka. I am sure under his leadership and under the guidance of PM Modi, BJP will give a stable, pro-farmer and development oriented govt in the state. I assure people of Karnataka that BJP is committed to fulfil their aspirations," BJP president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted.

Mr Yediyurappa was sworn in as the chief minister of the state for the fourth time on Friday evening and curiously no senior central leaders were present on the occasion.

Bengaluru, Jul 26: A total of 5,199 new COVID-19 cases and 82 deaths were reported from Karnataka on Sunday, the state's health department said.

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the state stands at 96,141, including 58,417 active cases and 35,838 recoveries.
So far, 1,878 deaths have been reported from Karnataka.

Meanwhile, India reported a spike of 48,661 cases and 705 deaths in the last 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.

A total of 9,46,777 tests have been done so far and the number of tests per million in the national capital stands at 49,830.

The total COVID-19 positive cases stand at 13,85,522, including 4,67,882 active cases, 8,85,577 cured/discharged/migrated, and 32,063 deaths, it added.

Mangaluru, Apr 10: Eight people were arrested on Friday on charges of illegally arriving at Addur near the city through boat violating the lockdown.
 
Police said that Yakub and other seven in his group have been charged with criminal cases for entering the city illegally as the border between Kerala and Karnataka has been sealed and a ban on travel between the States is in effect.
 
The group had arrived through boat despite there was ban. Police are now investigating the existence of a gang who are illegally transporting people through the sea across State borders.

Bengaluru, May 13: 26 new covid-19 cases have been reported in Karnataka taking the total cases to 951. This includes 32 COVID deaths, one non-COVID death and 442 discharges.

The new cases include eleven cases from Bidar - all of whom are from the containment zone - , four from Hassan, two each from Davangere, Kalaburgi, Vijayapura and Uttara Kannada and one each from Bengaluru Urban, Ballari and Dakshina Kannada.

All the cases reported in Hassan and Vijayapura are with a travel history to Mumbai. In Bengaluru Urban, a nurse from a designated COVID hospital who was under quarantine has tested positive.

32nd death

The latest death reported was that of a 60-year-old man in Kalaburgi district. The deceased man from a containment zone was brought dead on May 11 to a designated hospital in Kalaburagi, and he has tested positive for COVID-19, it said.
