BJP & Congress cross swords after Imran Khan's Tipu tweet

Bengaluru, May 6: A tweet by Pakistan PM Imran Khan on Tipu Sultan triggered a war of words between senior Congress leader Siddaramaiahand BJP's Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Sunday, with the former saying he was not the one to "eat biryani" with the premier of an enemy country.

Paying tribute to Tipu Sultan, Khan tweeted on Saturday, saying he admired him because "he preferred freedom and died fighting for it rather than live a life of enslavement".

Retweeting Khan's message, BJP MP Chandrasekhar wrote, "Dear @siddaramaiah avare - time for u (you) to hug Imranji n (and) Bajwaji - @sherryontopp! Thts (That's) quickest way to bcm (become) @RahulGandhi n (and) @priyankagandhi's favourite! #JustDoIt".

His jibe was aimed at Siddaramaiah who had started the tradition of celebrating Tipu Jayanti as then CM of Karnataka three years ago.

Slamming Chandrasekhar, Siddaramaiah tweeted, "Mr @rajeev_mp, Think before you tweet. I am not like your Chor @narendramodi to eat biryani with the PM of our enemy country & also not like you to compromise on ethics to please your bosses. It is better to lead a life of Tipu Sultan than like a slave of your bosses like you".

Bengaluru, Aug 7: Action will be taken against private hospitals that were violating government norms and charging exorbitant fees charges for the treatment of Covid-19 patients and suspects, said Water Resources Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi.

The government has taken action against private hospitals in Bengaluru and the same parameters would be adopted other cities, he said speaking to media persons in Belagavi on Friday.

Jarkiholi said that the government had noticed that patients were levied exorbitant charges for Covid-19 treatment. People too have complaints regarding the huge bills by these private hospitals and have demanded action.

“We are not under the obligation of any private hospital and stringent action will be taken against all erring and violating government tariffs. They will have to treat patients and follow the tariffs fixed,” he stated.

Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences District Hospital had been directed to install CCTV cameras in Covid-19 wards and install monitors at reception to facilitate monitoring of treatment and condition of the wards. BIMS management was taken to task for not following the directive and have been given a deadline to install CCTV cameras, Jarkiholi informed.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 20: One more person tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday, taking the total number of cases to 25, as the Left government announced a Rs 20,000 crore financial package to tide over the present crisis being faced by the southern state in the wake of the virus outbreak.

The multi-crore special package includes Rs 500 crore health package, Rs 2,000 crore loans and free ration.

The man who tested positive had returned from Dubai and hailed from the northern Kasaragod district, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters after a COVID-19 review meeting.

He said 65 people were hospitalised on Thursday.

"At least 31,173 people are under surveillance, of whom 237 are in observation in hospitals across the state" he said.

Detailing the financial package, Vijayan said loans worth Rs 2,000 crore would be made available to needy families through all-women network 'Kudumbashree' during April-May.

Rural employment guarantee programmes worth Rs 1,000 crore each will be implemented in April-May, he said.

Social security pension of Rs 1,320 crore, to be given in April, would be distributed this month, he said, adding that 50 lakh people are benefited through the pension scheme.

Those belonging to the below poverty line (BPL) and Anthyodaya, who are not receiving social security pension, would be given Rs 1,000 each, for which Rs 100 crore would be earmarked.

Cutting across APL and BPL families, 10 kg free ration would be given and Rs 100 crore would be set apart for the purpose, he said.

A string of 1,000 low-cost hotels, providing food at Rs 20, would be opened across the state next month, the chief minister added.

The 'fitness' charges of autorickshaws and taxis and one month tax of stage and contract carriages would be waived, Vijayan said.

Surathkal, Jan 4: The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) have signed agreementsfor joint research and development of technology for application in space, a statement said here on Friday.

As part of the agreement, which was signed by P Venkatakrishnan, Director of ISRO CBPO Division and Prof Umamaheswar Rao, Director, NITK, ISRO will establish the Regional Academic Center for Space (RACS) at NITK.
