BJP conveys displeasure to Giriraj Singh over his remark

Giriraj_SinghNew Delhi, Apr 20: BJP today distanced itself from its Bihar leader Giriraj Singh's 'back Narendra Modi or go to Pakistan' remark with the party saying that he has been conveyed the "displeasure" of the top brass and asked to refrain from stoking any further row.

Singh had said in an election meeting in Jharkhand yesterday that those opposing Modi will have to go to Pakistan after elections, leaving BJP red-faced and inviting sharp criticism from rival parties who said his comments were aimed at Muslims.

BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said the party had nothing to do with Singh's statement.Senior Bihar BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi termed the statement "irresponsible" and said the party does not approve of it.

"BJP doesn't approve of irresponsible statement given by Giriraj Singh," he tweeted.

Party sources said Singh has been pulled up for his remarks which, BJP believes, have given other poliitcal parties a handle to go after it even as it has built its campaign around the developmental agenda.

"He has been conveyed the leadership's displeasure," a party leader said.

Attacking BJP, Congress spokesperson Meem Afzal wondered if non-NDA leaders like Lalu Prasad, Nitish Kumar, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati will be sent to Pakistan.

He said the Election Commission should take note of Singh's comments and he should be sent to "jail".

K C Mittal of Congress Legal Cell said they will go to the EC. "It's a serious issue. He is trying to provoke people and laying foundation of dividing the nation. The language he used is dangerous and divisive," he said.

Singh had said, "Those opposing Narendra Modi are looking at Pakistan, and such people will have place in Pakistan and not in India".

New Delhi, Apr 28: With 1,594 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the last 24 hours and 51 deaths, India's total count of coronavirus cases surged to 29,974, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday.

The total cases are inclusive of 7,026 cured and discharged patients, one migrated and 937 deaths.

At present, there are 22,010 active COVID-19 cases in the country.

Addressing a press conference here, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, said that in the last 28 days, 17 districts have had no new Covid-19 cases. "This means we need to maintain constant vigil," he added.

Ayodhya, Jul 18: The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone of a grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya either on August 3 or 5, both auspicious dates, said a spokesperson.

PM Modi had announced the formation of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust on February 5.

Mahant Kamal Nayan Das, the spokesperson of Ram Mandir Trust president Nritya Gopal Das said, "We have suggested two auspicious dates -- August 3 and 5 -- for the prime minister's visit based on calculations of movements of stars and planets."

After a protracted legal tussle, the Supreme Court had on November 9 last year paved the way for the construction of a Ram Temple by a Trust at the disputed site in Ayodhya and directed the Centre to allot an alternative 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque at a "prominent" place in the holy town in Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi, Jul 22: With a spike of 37,724 cases and 648 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of COVID-19 cases in India stands at 11,92,915, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total number of cases includes 4,11,133 active cases, 7,53,050 cured/discharged/migrated and 28,732 deaths, the Health Ministry informed.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 3,27,031 cases and 12,276 deaths.
The second worst-hit state, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,80,643 COVID-19 cases so far while Delhi has reported 1,25,096 cases, according to the Ministry.

Other states that have witnessed a higher number of COVID-19 positive cases include, Andhra Pradesh with 58,668 cases, Karnataka with 71,069 while Telangana has reported 47,705 COVID-19 positive cases.

Meanwhile, as per the information provided by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total number of samples tested up to July 21 is 1,47,24, 546 including 3,43,243 samples tested yesterday.
