Hubballi, Oct 31: Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy might have given a statement about extending support to the state government but the B S Yediyurappa-led BJP government is safe and we have not sought support from anyone, said Union parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Joshi said there was no question of sidelining deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi.

“BJP is very serious about flood and rehabilitation works. As the byelections must be conducted before six months, the process of selecting candidates is on. That doesn't mean we are neglecting the flood situation and relief works,” he said.

Welcoming the state government’s decision to exclude a chapter on Tipu Sultan from textbooks he said, “Tipu was a fanatic, which is a known fact. Congress leader C M Ibrahim too has opined same. It is better late than never.”

“In another two-three years KC Circle will have a flyover for which Rs 350 crore has already been released. But development works of roads should not get hampered in the name of the flyover,” he said.

“In 2015-16, Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari had sanctioned more than Rs 3,000 crore under CRF funds for development of roads, but the previous government didn't work effectively,” he said.

“Tenders for seven road works in Hubballi-Dharwad have been called and work will begin soon. Due to emergency works owing to the floods, the process was delayed. Rs 11.5 crore has been sanctioned for Tarihal sports complex, of which Rs 3.5 crore was released. Our intention to build a sports complex at a cost of Rs 100 crore, for which work will be done gradually,” he added.

Meeting with Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries

Joshi also interacted with the beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat health scheme and urged them to get more people to enrol.

The government has set a target of enrolling 13 lakh people in to the scheme in Dharwad district. So far 2 lakh people have enrolled. NGOs, party workers and other individuals must organise special camps in each ward to enroll beneficiaries, said Joshi.

Stating that not many people know the scheme, the Dharwad MP added that there is a need to raise awareness about the scheme and ensure more people benefit from it.

Later Joshi had breakfast with the beneficiaries and distributed sweet boxes to them. District health department officials, BJP office bearers and others were present in the programme.

Bengaluru, Feb 10: Senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar on Sunday hit out at the BJP and RSS for taking out a route march in Ramanagara against the controversial Jesus Christ statue.

“Just because the BJP won 25 seats in the Lok Sabha polls, Congress workers need not lose hope. If the Congress and JD(S) had worked out a better strategy, the BJP would not have won even 10 seats. We will correct our mistakes,” the former Congress minister said.

After the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP has failed to do well in assembly polls and has been losing power in many states. People are hitting the streets protesting against its policies such as CAA and NRC, he said.

Accusing the BJP and RSS of not being able to digest Congress’ victory in the Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha segment in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, he said that the BJP is trying hard to make inroads into the constituency represented by his brother D K Suresh. “Let them take out route march, we don’t care,” he said.

“We all know what the BJP did during the Lok Sabha elections, and the media reported how much money they spent in the elections. What was the Election Commission doing? Was the Income Tax Department sitting with its eyes closed? Why did they conduct raids only in Hassan, Shivamogga and Mandya districts,” he asked.

He alleged that false cases were slapped when him and other leaders, including H D Kumaraswamy, Siddaramaiah, G Parameshwara and Dinesh Gundurao.

Bengaluru, Jan 24: Karnataka High Court on Friday ordered notice to the state government and self-styled godman Swami Nithyananda while hearing a petition seeking cancellation of bail granted to him.

A petition was filed in the Karnataka High Court on Friday seeking cancellation of bail granted to Nithyananda for skipping the trial and fleeing the country.

Justice John Michael Cunha, after hearing the complainant, ordered issuance of notice to the state government and Nithyananda and posted the matter for hearing next week.

The petition, filed by K Lenin, alleged that Nithyananda has been skipping trial and has fled the country on an expired passport.

The plea further said that Nithyananda was making false representations in his "exemption petitions to the trial court as if he is still in India".

Interpol has also issued a 'blue corner notice' to locate the self-styled godman, who is facing trial in a criminal case, on the request of Gujarat Police.
