BJP hits back at Sena, says next Maha govt under our leadership

September 15, 2014

Mumbai/Pune, Sep 15; Tension brewing within the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance over seat-sharing for upcoming Maharashtra assembly polls escalated today with BJP disapproving Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray's statement that in the event of a saffron victory, the top post would go to his party and that he was not averse to assuming it.

sena-bjpBJP, an all-weather ally of Shiv Sena, is rankled by Uddhav's public statement yesterday that the chief minister of Maharashtra will be from Shiv Sena only if the saffron alliance is voted to power after October 15 elections.

"It is for the people to decide if they trust me. They will decide whom they want as the face (chief minister). I am not hankering after any post but will not shy away from responsibility either..But the face will be from Shiv Sena only," Uddhav had said.

Adding to unease in BJP, Sena had rubbed in with an editorial in its mouthpiece 'Saamana' using a risque metaphor to attack BJP, which has become more assertive over number of seats to contest in Assembly elections after its massive victory in Lok Sabha polls.

"Excessive lust leads to divorce. Allies in the coalition must dream of a victory. For this, all parties must give up the lust for more seats. To say we will stay in the coalition only if we get 'so many seats' is not right," 'Saamana' had said.

Reiterating Uddhav's statement, the party MP Sanjay Raut today said the next chief minister will be from Shiv Sena only.

"In two to three days, it will be clear to everyone that the Shiv Sena and BJP alliance, that has been going strong from the last many years is going to be strong this time as well..Who will be the CM of the state will be decided by Shiv Sena. The next CM will be from the Shiv Sena only," Raut said in Mumbai.

Miffed with Sena's aggressive stand on the issue, BJP today launched a counter attack saying that in the event of a victory in the Assembly elections, the next government will be led by BJP.

"Sanjay Raut is not a top leader of Sena. Talks are going on between the top leadership of the two parties. However, they (talks) have now hit a speed breaker," party spokesperson Madhav Bhandari said.

"The next government in Maharashtra will be formed under the leadership of the BJP. Our national president (Amit Shah) had made this very clear while on his trip to Mumbai. And his decision is final," Bhandari added.

Disapproving Uddhav's statement which is prominently published in 'Saamna', BJP leader and in-charge of Maharashtra affairs, Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, "It is desirable to refrain from making such statements prior to elections and talks."

"This issue (of who gets to decide the CM) will be decided after the elections. The BJP expects a mature and respectable understanding from the Sena," Rudy told reporters in Pune.

"BJP had proposed that after allotting respective share of seats to smaller alliance partners, including RPI (Athavale) and Swabhiman Party led by Raju Shetti, the remaining seats should be divided equally between BJP and Shiv Sena," he said.

Rudy said that in this background, BJP is expecting to contest about 135 seats, leaving the same number to Shiv Sena.

In the 288-member House, Shiv Sena and BJP had contested 169 and 119 seats respectively in the 2009 Assembly elections.

In just-held Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 23 seats out of total 48 seats in Maharashtra while Sena bagged 18 seats.

The time-tested formula in the saffron alliance in the state is 169 seats for the Sena and 119 for the BJP in Assembly elections.

The state BJP reportedly wants at least 15 seats more from the Sena citing its performance in Lok Sabha elections, however Sena is apparently sticking to the old formula.

New Delhi, Feb 29: The father of Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma, whose body was pulled out of a drain in northeast Delhi's riot-hit Chand Bagh, complained to police that goons had assembled at the residence of former AAP counselor Tahir Hussain and were throwing petrol bombs from the rooftop.

According to the FIR which was registered on Thursday on the basis of the complaint lodged by Ankit's father Ravinder, the goons were also firing from the rooftop.

On Tuesday, Ankit returned from his office at 5 pm and then went outside to buy groceries. When he did not return, the family started looking for him and later filed a missing report, the FIR stated.

They got to know from their neighbours that a body has been recovered from a drain… later it was found to be that of Anikt, it said, adding the body had multiple stab injuries on the face, head, back, and chest.

The family has alleged in the FIR that it was Hussain and the goons at his residence who killed Ankit. In the FIR, Hussain has been accused of murder, destruction of evidence and abduction.

Soon after the FIR was registered on Thursday, the AAP suspended Tahir Hussain from the primary membership of the party till the police completed its probe.

The death toll in Delhi's communal violence rose to 42 on Friday as the situation showed some signs of returning to normalcy and clouds of smoke cleared to reveal the extent of the damage from the worst riots in the city in over three decades.

A total of 148 FIRs have been registered and 630 people have been either arrested or detained so far in connection with the communal violence, a Delhi Police spokesperson said.

New Delhi, Feb 3: Union minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had called himself an "anarchist" and there is not much of a "difference between an anarchist and a terrorist".

His remarks come a few days after the Election Commission issued a show cause notice to BJP MP Parvesh Verma for allegedly calling Kejriwal a "terrorist".

Addressing a press conference here, Javadekar raked up the issue of Kejriwal "staying a night at the Moga residence of Khalistan Commando Force chief Gurinder Singh during the Punjab Assembly polls".

"You knew it was a militant's house. Still, you stayed there. How much more evidence do you need?" he said.

"Kejriwal is now asking with a sad face, 'am I a terrorist?' You are a terrorist and there is a lot of evidence to prove that. You yourself had said you are an anarchist. There is not much of a difference between an anarchist and a terrorist," the senior BJP leader said.

Flanked by Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari and Union minister Anurag Thakur, Javadekar said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was supporting Shaheen Bagh, where slogans of "Assam ko azadi", "Jinnah wali azadi" were being raised. "Supporting such slogans is also terrorism".

He alleged that Kejriwal stood with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), where "anti-India slogans were raised, and did not grant sanction to prosecute (those who raised the slogans)".

"On January 26, you threatened that you would stop their prosecution. How much more proof do you need? The people of Delhi now know that you are the chief of liars, you are an anarchist and sympathise with terrorists.

"You are supporting Shaheen Bagh, JNU, the slogans being raised there and all such anarchists...then you are definitely a terrorist. This is your identity, no matter how innocent face you make," he said.

On Thursday, the Election Commission had issued a show cause notice to Verma, the BJP MP from West Delhi, for allegedly calling Kejriwal a "terrorist".

He was earlier barred from campaigning for 96 hours (four days) for making controversial remarks at a poll meet recently.

An emotional Kejriwal had later said it was for the people of Delhi to decide whether they consider him their son, brother, or a terrorist.

"How have I become a terrorist? I've arranged for medicines...did so much for the needy. I've never thought of myself or my family... am ready to give my life for the nation," he had said at a press conference.
