BJP hits out at Ghulam Nabi Azad for Kashmir remarks

Jammu, Sept 26: The BJP on Thursday hit out at senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad for his remarks that democracy does not exist in Jammu and Kashmir, saying he is "mentally bankrupt".

Azad on Wednesday had said there is no democracy in Jammu and Kashmir and people are living in fear after the Centre scrapped the state's special status on August 5.

"Ghulam Nabi Azad is mentally bankrupt who says there is no more democracy in J and K after the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of the state," senior state BJP leader and MLC Ramesh Arora told reporters here.

He said Azad should respect the majority's decision that supported the revoking of Jammu and Kashmir's special status and the bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories.

"In fact, Azad is speaking such words which kills the basic spirit of democracy. Pakistan is projecting this view point at the international level as it suits them," Arora said.

The Congress leadership has "failed" to understand the gravity of the situation, the BJP leader added.

"Azad should explain why the Kashmir issue was taken to the UN by former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and why his party did not have the courage to solve the internal issue itself," he said.

"Azad should explain why democracy was killed in 1975 when Sheikh Abdullah was installed as chief minister of J and K when the Congress headed by Syed Mir Qasim was in power. It was the murder of democracy," Arora said.

He also charged Azad over the imposition of Emergency in 1975 by the Congress government at the Centre.

Arora said the BJP government has taken a decision to "correct the blunders committed by the Congress leadership from time to time".

"Abrogation of Article 370 was welcomed in the country," he added.

Azad, while talking to the media as he concluded his six-day tour of the state on Wednesday, had said, "Democracy is nowhere in the state after the change in its status. It has vanished from the state."

"There is disappointment in Kashmir and the despair is also prevalent among the people in Jammu province. Except 100 or 200 people of the ruling party (BJP), nobody is happy (over the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories)," the former chief minister had told reporters before leaving for Delhi.

Azad had on Tuesday arrived in Jammu from Srinagar.

He had reached the state's summer capital on Friday on his maiden visit to the Valley after the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

'Ye Ravan ke aulad hain': Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury labels BJP over Hegde's remark

New Delhi, Feb 4: Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, on Tuesday attacked the BJP over Anantkumar Hegde's controversial remark on Mahatma Gandhi and termed the party as "Ravan ke aulad" (children of Ravana). "Aaj ye Mahatma Gandhi ko gaali dete hain. Ye Ravan ke aulad hain. Ram ke pujari ka ye apmaan kar rahe hain (Today, they abuse Mahatma Gandhi. They are children of Ravan. They are insulting Lord Ram's devotee)," Chowdhury said.

Later, BJP lawmakers object to Chowdhury's statement. Hegde, who is a Lok Sabha MP from Uttara Kannada, had on Saturday said that the freedom struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi was a "drama".

"None of these so-called leaders were beaten up by the cops even once. Their independence movement was one big drama. It was staged by these leaders with the approval of the British. It was not a genuine fight. It was an adjustment freedom struggle," Hegde had said while addressing a public event in Bengaluru. While several Congress leaders, including Karti Chidambaram and BK Hariprasad, have condemned Hegde's remark, BJP leaders too have distanced themselves from it.

Top leadership in BJP is unhappy with Anantkumar Hegde over his controversial remark on Mahatma Gandhi, party sources had said on Monday, adding that he has been asked to issue an unconditional apology.

Muslim population rose in India because they got 'special rights': Yogi Adityanath

Jan 15: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that the Muslim population in India increased manifold since the partition because they were given special rights and facilities, according to a report by The Indian Express.

"The Muslim population in India has increased manifold since 1947, it has gone up by seven to eight times. No one has any objection. If they, as citizens of the country, work for development, they are welcome. Their population has increased because they have been given special rights and facilities. All possible steps were taken to ensure their growth," Adityanath said while addressing a rally in Gaya organised by the BJP in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

He asked the audience, "But what happened in Pakistan?" Claiming that the Hindu population in Pakistan had decreased since 1947, he asked why it was so.

Yogi said that the countrywide anti-CAA protests are a "conspiracy" hatched from afar by those resentful of a united and grand India and these are being aided by a "crooked" opposition. He further charged that those opposing the legislation were committing the "paap" (sin) of working against national interests.

"For taking such a step, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah deserve acclaim. Instead, they are being attacked", Yogi lamented.

He himself contradicts his statements. He claims the Muslim population rose 8-9 (according to him) times since 1947. If he was educated its simple 73 years have passed the population grows. Still, the Muslim population is only a minority against the majority. He talks about special rights and facilities given yes agreed but not by him it's by the Constitution of India and for all the minorities. So it's not you its Constitution of India. The majority of the people are against the act CAA is against the very fundamental of the Constitution of India which PM & HM are taking away from the people. If you disagree, disrespect, go against it then you are against the country itself in Hindi deshdruhi.

With highest single-day spike of 49,310 cases, India's COVID-19 tally reaches 12,87,945

New Delhi, Jul 24: India reported the highest single-day spike of 49,310 coronavirus cases on Friday, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total COVID-19 positive cases stand at 12,87,945 including 4,40,135 active cases, 8,17,209 cured/discharged/migrated.
With 740 deaths in the last 24 hours, the cumulative toll reached 30,601.

Maharashtra has reported 3,47,502 coronavirus cases, the highest among states and Union Territories in the country. A total of 1,92,964 cases have been reported from Tamil Nadu till now, while Delhi has recorded 1,27,364 coronavirus cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 3,52,801 samples were tested for coronavirus on Thursday and overall 1,54,28,170 samples have been tested so far.
