BJP Karnataka Core Committee recommends names for two by-elections

Bengaluru, Apr 25: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka State Core Committee today decided to recommend two names each to the Central BJP leaders to select party nominees for May 13 by-elections to Chincholi and Kundagol Assembly seats.

Speaking to newsmen here on Thursday after chairing the meeting, State President B S Yeddyurappa said that "the Committee had shortlisted party nominees and decided it send it to Central party leaders".

While the Kundagol Assembly seat fell vacant following death of Minister C S Shivalli, the by-election to Chincholi was caused following resignation of the sitting Congress MLA Dr Umesh Jadhav, who joined the BJP and contesting for Kalaburagi Lok Sabha seat.

Udupi, Aug 1: A girl child died five persons suffered injuries in a car accident today on National Highway-66 near Ambalpady in Udupi.

According to sources, two couples and children were travelling in the car from Mangaluru to Shikaripura when the tragedy took place. 

The speeding car rammed into the road divider and flipped over after the driver lost control over it near Ambalpady. 

Among the injured, the condition of a woman is said to be critical. She has been admitted to KMC Hospital in Manipal. The other passengers escaped with minor injuries.

A case has been registered at Udupi town traffic police station and investigations are on. More details are awaited.

Mysuru, Feb 6: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu on Thursday said that he would consult experts in Ayurveda and other streams over coronavirus issue.

Speaking to the media here, he said that ''So far no positive case has been reported in the state''.

''However, the Health department officials have taken all precautionary measures to check the epidemic'', he further said.

Bengaluru, Mar 12: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan on Wednesday said rumours that the state government has asked offices to remain closed tomorrow are false.

He clarified that the government has asked employers to explore the option of work from home amid the coronavirus scare.

"The rumours that the Govt has asked offices to remain closed tomorrow are false. We have asked employers to explore options of work from home for their employees. Let us be vigilant about this issue and not fall prey to any such rumours," Ashwathnarayan tweeted.

Meanwhile, Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi has cancelled all seminars, workshops or conferences in the premises in the wake of coronavirus spread.

"All the functions including seminars, workshops, conferences are to be cancelled. This is for urgent and necessary compliance," officials from the hospital said.
