BJP leader criticizes literary fest; letter threatens bomb blast at venue

Mysuru, Nov 25: The 83rd Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, wherein senior writers and thinkers vociferously condemned the growing communalism and intolerance in India, has irked Bharatiya Janata Party.

BJP leader and Udupi Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje has portrayed the literary convention as the Congress party convention.

Meanwhile, the Mysuru police have upped the security at the convention venue at Maharaja College Grounds following a bomb threat letter.

The letter addressed to the office of Deputy Director of Public Instruction stated that Muslim literature and Muslim teachers have been neglected in the ongoing literary fest.

Sources added, an anonymous caller has warned the authorities to ignore the bomb threat letter at their own peril.

DDPI Manjula has forwarded the letter to Mysuru Police Commissioner Dr A Subhramanyeshwar Rao. The city police have enhanced the security at Sammelana venue.

The three-day literary fest, presided over by Chandrashekar Patil, will conclude on Sunday. Meanwhile, Muslims leaders in Mysuru has condemned the bomb threat and called it a communal conspiracy to defame Muslims.

Mangaluru, May 4: District Health Officer Dr Ramachandra Bairi on Monday said that a special team, comprising of six members, has been constituted to find the source of Corona infection in Dakshina Kannada .

The team is expected to file its report by May 6. It is still not clear if Bantwal was the source was the infection or not.

He said 1st phase of investigation in this regard is complete and the samples taken on the 12th day will give a clear picture.

Bengaluru, Jun 3: Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Tuesday intensified preventive measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in a bid to make air-travel contactless.

The airport has introduced contact-less self-check-in kiosks, non-intrusive thermal cameras, self bag drop facility and other features.

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) had earlier said that it will ensure that the taxis are sanitised and the drivers are screened before every trip to eliminate all chances of infection.

"Drivers have been instructed to maintain a safe distance. They will be encouraged to use hand sanitiser and face masks to make the car a safe space. Able-bodied passengers are advised to load their luggage into the car without the driver's assistance. For elderly citizens and passengers with reduced mobility, drivers will assist while following hygiene measures," BIAL statement had said.

The masks have been made mandatory for both drivers as well as passengers.

Karnataka on Monday reported 187 new cases of coronavirus, with which the State's total COVID-19 count has surged to 3,408.

Bengaluru, Mar 18: Two more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka, taking the tally of infected persons in the state to 13, Health Minister B Sriramulu said on Wednesday.

A 56-year-old man, a resident of Bengaluru had returned to India from the US on March 6 while the second person is a 25-yr-old woman with a travel history to Spain.

"2 more COVID-19 cases have been registered in Bengaluru today, taking the total infected cases to 13. 56-year-old male, resident of Bengaluru returned from the USA on 6th March. Another 25-yr-old female has returned from Spain," Sriramulu said in a post on his Twitter account.

A total of 147 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in India so far, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Wednesday.
