Pune, Oct 17: In a shocking incident, a 38-year-old BJP leader was shot and hacked to death in broad daylight in Talegaon Dabhade, 35 km from Pune, on Sunday.

murderSachin Shelke, former mayor of Talegaon municipal council, was allegedly murdered by a group of persons.

What happened actually?

He was travelling in his car when assailants waylaid him near a petrol pump at around 11 AM on Sunday.

"The assailants asked Shelke to get down from the car and fired a round at him and then attacked him with sharp-edged weapons before fleeing," Superintendent of Police Jai Jadhav said.

"An old enmity could be the reason behind the murder," he said.

People who were around him, rushed him to a private hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The police have registered a case against 10 people, believed to be associates of Shyam Dabhade, who has criminal record and is absconding, the SP said.

Four suspects also have been detained.

Police also recovered CCTV footage from the spot and a manhunt has been launched to trace the remaining assailants.

In 2013, Shelke was attacked but survived. His brother and father too had survived similar attacks.

Situation in and around Talegaon was tense and heavy police force have been deployed there.

The town was in news for similar incident in 2010 when Satish Shetty, an RTI activist, was murdered while on morning walk

Bengaluru, Jan 8: The Karnataka high court on Tuesday directed the government to submit steps taken in respect of the order of Lokyukta in relation to the Kethaganahalli landgrab case involving former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, his relatives and former minister DC Thammanna.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka gave the direction on a PIL filed by Samaj Parivartan Samudaya (SPS), an NGO. The petitioner said despite an order from the Lokayukta on August 5, 2014, to take action within 15 days, no action has been initiated till date in respect of encroachment of a huge tract of land in Kethaganahalli along Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.

SPS says the land was purchased in 1979 contrary to norms of Karnataka Land Revenue Act. It claims Kumaraswamy and others paid only Rs 5,000 per acre, although the prevailing market rate was Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 per acre.

Mangaluru, June 14: Private schools under the aegis of Association of English Medium Schools in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi urged the State government to reimburse the arrears of the fee related to admission of students under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

Speaking to newsmen here on Sunday association president Y. Mohammed Beary said the State government has not cleared the arrears for the last two years. “The 400 private schools in two districts have to get around Rs 2 crore,” he said and added that the overall arrears that the government has to pay to schools in the State are around Rs1,200 crore.

Mr. Beary said arrears have made the school managements like his, who collect annual fees of about Rs 20,000 from a student, hard to function. Due to lockdown from March the schools could not conduct annual examinations and hence they could not collect pending fees from parents.
