BJP leaders tried to lure me Rs 30-cr cash plus ministerial berth: Lakshmi Hebbalkar

Belagavi, Sept 28: Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Congress leader and MLA from Belagavi district has revealed that the BJP had tried to poach her by offering her Rs 30 crore cash and with a promise to make her a Minister after toppling the coalition government.

“Some BJP leaders from Karnataka called me when I was in Hyderabad a few weeks ago and made an offer on the phone. They said I would be made a Minister and that I would get ₹30 crore. I told them ‘Operation Lotus’ was an unethical way to come to power and refused their offer,” she told presspersons here today.

“Some other leaders sent me messages,” she said. But she did not divulge the names of the leaders who contacted her.

She said she had handed over the details of the phone calls and messages that she had received, to senior party leaders. She refused to give further details.

Kannur, Jun 21: Customs sleuths on Sunday seized 432 grams of gold worth around Rs 20 lakh from a passenger who arrived at Kannur International Airport from Dubai in Fly Dubai flight, scheduled under Vande Bharat Mission.

Customs Assistant Commissioner E Vikas-led team seized the smuggled gold from the passenger Usman of Malappuram district and detained him, sources said.

The seized gold was kept in his inner-wear.

Mangaluru  Mar 27: Thinking that he might have contracted the coronavirus infection, a 55-year-old man has committed suicide in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.

The deceased has been identified as Sadashiva Shetty, a resident of Abbettu under Meramajalu village. He was working in a petrol bunk.

It is learnt that Sadashiva suspected that he might have come in contact with coronavirus infected people while working in the petrol bunk.

He was scared that the same might get transferred to his family members through him. 

He was depressed for past few days. Today, he hanged himself from the ceiling fan of his house, sources said.

A case has been regarded at the Bantwal rural police station and investigations are on.

Mangaluru, Feb 13: Jnandev Kamath, former President of erstwhile Mangalore Stock Exchange Limited died late last night in a private hospital in the city.

He was 65 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Jnandev Kamath was an alumnus of SDM College of Law and Business Management. 

He was one the founding members of Mangalore Stock Exchange Limited. He was an avid sportsman, an accomplished cricketer, a champion rallyist and golf coach. 

He often played for Pentlandpet Sports Association (PPSA) in his younger days.
