BJP to lose MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh to Congress in next assembly polls: Survey

New Delhi, Aug 14: The Narendra Modi-Amit Shah led Bharatiya Janata Party would face defeat in three major states - Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan – where it is currently in power, in the next assembly elections, according to the latest survey.

The survey conducted by CVOTER and ABP News claimed that the ruling BJP will be comfortably defeated by Congress by big margins, which has been trying to hard to make a comeback.

The survey, however, indicated that the Narendra Modi factor would play a big role in reviving the fortunes of the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

According to the survey, the Congress is expected to win around 117 out of 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 54 out of 90 in Chhattisgarh and 130 out of 200 in Rajasthan.

This means that the Congress party would gain a clear majority in all the three states in the next assembly elections.

The BJP, on the other hand, is expected to win only 106, 33 and 57 seats in the three states respectively, the survey predicted.

Winning the three states would be a major boost for Rahul Gandhi-led Congress, which has been reduced to power in just four states, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections as polls in these states are being seen as a semi-final ahead of the grand finale next year.

If the predictions of the survey come true then it would give Congress enough bargaining power to negotiate for seats for 2019 Lok Sabha elections with its alliance partners.

Based on the feedback provide by nearly 28,000, the survey indicated that the voters are most likely to favour the ruling BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Interestingly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi still remains first choice and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi was a distant second for the top post.

BJP, which had secured higher vote shares in all three states, is likely to win most of the total 65 Lok Sabha seats among them.

Rajasthan

The survey predicted that Congress would win nearly 130 in the 200-seat assembly by securing 51 percent votes as against the BJP’s 37 percent.  This would be in sharp contrast from 2013 when BJP had got 163 seats.

According to the survey, senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot is favoured by 41 percent people for the chief minister's post against Sachin Pilot who is favoured by 18 percent people.

Madhya Pradesh

In Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led MP, the anti-incumbency factor against the ruling BJP would help Congress win nearly 42 percent votes here. The ruling BJP is likely to win just 40 percent votes. Making huge gains, Congress is expected to win around 117 seats in the 230-seat Assembly here.

Chhattisgarh

The survey predicted a close contest between the Congress and BJP in Chhattisgarh in the next assembly elections. The Congress party is expected to win around 40 percent votes against BJP which is predicted to 39 percent of the total votes polled.

In view of its good showing, the Congress is predicted to win 54 seats in the 90-seat Assembly.

New Delhi, Aug 3: Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should defer the foundation stone laying ceremony for Ram temple from August 5 as it will be an "inauspicious hour" for the event.

"I request Modi Ji again that the inauspicious occasion of August 5 (for foundation stone laying ceremony for Ram temple) should be deferred. The construction of Ram temple is to begin after hundreds of years of struggle and PM Modi should leave his stubbornness that may cause an obstruction in the process," Digvijaya tweeted (translated from Hindi).

The Congress leader went on to claim that several BJP leaders were falling sick due to COVID-19 as the result of ignoring the norms of Sanatan Dharma. "The results of ignoring the norms of Sanatan Dharma are - all priests of Ram temple tested positive for COVID-19, death of UP Minister Kamal Rani Varun due to corona, UP BJP chief tested COVID-19 positive, Home Minister Amit Shah tested positive for COVID-19, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan tested positive for COVID-19, Karnataka CM Yediyurappa tested positive for COVID-19," he added.

"Lord Ram is the epicentre of faith for crores of Hindus and the PM should not play with norms and traditions of Sanatan Dharma established across thousands of years," he added.

The Congress leader further questioned the urgency of holding the foundation stone laying event in times when COVID-19 spread is prevalent across the country.

"By laying the foundation stone for Ram temple at an inauspicious hour, how many people do you want to send to the hospital Modi Ji? Yogi Ji, please explain to Modi Ji. In your presence, why are the norms and traditions of Sanatan Dharma being broken? What is your compulsion that you are allowing this to happen?" he contended.

"One more question arises. A minister of the Uttar Pradesh government died due to coronavirus. Union Home Minister tested positive for COVID-19 and Uttar Pradesh BJP chief also tested positive. In these circumstances, whether Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and India's Prime Minister should not be quarantined? Is being quarantined only mandated for common people? Not for Prime Minister and Chief Ministers? The time limit for quarantine is 14 days," he added.

He further said that the entire cabinet should go into quarantine otherwise they will infect the residents of Ayodhya.

"These people's religion is 'Hindutva' and not 'Sanatan Dharma'. hence they have nothing to do with Sanatan Dharma's traditions. They have broken all the norms. Now, Modi Ji will issue the muhurta and he will only lay the foundation stone," he tweeted.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on August 5.

The construction of Ram temple will begin after the ceremony to lay the foundation stone in which Chief Ministers of several states, Ministers from the Union Cabinet and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat are also likely to participate.

New Delhi, Aug 2: India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 17 lakh mark with 54,736 positive cases and 853 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

"The total COVID-19 cases stand at 17,50,724 including 5,67,730 active cases, 11,45,630 cured/discharged/migrated and 37,364 deaths," said the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

As per the data provided by the Health Ministry, Maharashtra -- the worst affected state from the infection -- has a total of 1,49,214 active cases and 15,316 deaths. A total of 4,31,719 coronavirus cases have been recorded in the state up to Saturday, as per the state health department.

Tamil Nadu has a total of 60,580 active cases and 4,034 deaths.

In Delhi, the total cases rose to 1,36,716, including 1,22,131 recovered/discharged/migrated cases and 3,989 deaths. There are 10,596 active cases in the national capital.

The total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to August 1 is 1,98,21,831 including 4,63,172 samples tested yesterday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Sunday.

Beijing, Feb 6: The number of confirmed fatalities from China's coronavirus outbreak rose to at least 560, after authorities in hardest-hit Hubei province reported 70 new deaths on February 6.

In its daily update, the health commission in Hubei also confirmed the number of confirmed infections in the outbreak has reached 28,018 nationwide with 3,694 new cases reported.

The epidemic, which has spiralled into a global health emergency, is believed to have emerged in December from a market that sold wild game in Hubei's capital Wuhan.

Hu Lishan, an official in Wuhan, warned Wednesday that despite building a hospital from scratch and converting public buildings to accommodate thousands of extra patients, there was still a "severe" lack of beds in the region.

There was also a shortage of "equipment and materials," he told reporters, adding that officials were looking to convert other hotels and schools in the city into treatment centres.

Authorities in several other cities in China have placed restrictions on the number of people allowed to leave their homes.

Global concerns have also risen about the virus, with cases confirmed in more than 20 countries.
