Anand B Singh, BJP MLA from Vijayanagara constituency, tendered his resignation for his post in the Legislative Assembly on Saturday.

Mr. Singh met Speaker K.B. Koliwad at the Inspection Bungalow at Ranebennur in Haveri district, which is the native place of the latter, and submitted the resignation letter. Mr. Koliwad told presspersons that since Mr. Singh has tendered his resignation voluntarily and in person, he has accepted it.

Mr. Singh said he had resigned as he was fed up of the internal bickering in the BJP and the “step-motherly attitude” of the party’s leaders. He said if the top leaders wanted to retain him in the party, they would have called him for talks. He said he would take a decision on his next political move after consulting the voters in the constituency.

Meanwhile, sources said that he may also join the Congress party in the presence of AICC president Rahul Gandhi in Hosapete. Recently, Santosh Lad, Congress leader and Labour Minister, had revealed that Mr Sing would join Congress in February along with independent MLA B. Nagendra.

“We welcome Mr. Singh and Mr. Nagendra’s decisions to join the Congress. However, the high command will have to take a final decision in this regard,” Mr Lad said.

According to DHO Sudhirchandra Sooda, two siblings from Hejamadi in Padubidri had tested positive for COVID-19 recently. After shifting to the hospital, when the officials asked them about their primary contacts and travel history, the patients furnished false information.

When the officials collected information from various sources, they realised that the duo had travelled to Bantwal, Kasargod, Ullal and other places in Dakshina Kannada, said Dr Sooda. Hence, the district administration decided to file cases against them, he added.
