Indore, Jun 26: Akash Vijayvargiya, BJP MLA from Indore-3 constituency and son of party general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, on Wednesday beat up a zonal officer of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) for attempting to demolish a building of his supporter that was declared 'dangerous'.

Akash, who was arrested by the MG Road police, was produced before a local court. Cases under IPC sections 353, 294, 506, 147, and 148 have been registered against him and 10 others.
Earlier today, as the video of the attack went viral on social media, IMC staff went on a flash strike and staged a protest against the MLA.

In the video, Vijayvargiya is seen beating up the IMC zonal officer, Dheeraj Bais, with a cricket bat after he refused to call off the demolition drive. His supporters even damaged the windshield of vehicles of IMC officials. The situation got under control after police intervention.

The MLA later told reporters that the demolition was politically motivated and the building's condition was not that bad.

"I had brought this to the notice of IMC authorities and requested them not to take any action, but they did not listen to my request and sent a team to demolish the building. As I came to know about it, I reached the spot and tried to explain the issue to the zonal officer concerned, but he did not listen to me either. This is when I lost my patience," Vijayvargiya said.

However, he did not admit that he hit the civic official, saying, "I don't remember what I did to him. There were women in the building and the male staff of IMC were pushing them out of the building."

"I tried to make them understand about the risk. The building is in a dilapidated state and poses high risk to the lives of those living in it. But they did not listen to us, and thrashed and beat me up with a cricket bat," said Zonal officer Bais.

Bais later approached the MG road police to lodge a complaint against Vijayvargiya. The police had recorded his statements and an investigation was launched into the issue.

The civic body is running a drive to bring down dilapidated structures in the city to prevent any untoward incident during rains.

Kanpur, Jul 11: "The Uttar Pradesh administration has done the right thing by taking action against my son," said an old and feeble Ram Kumar Dubey, father of gangster Vikas Dubey.

The father said his son killed eight police officials and it was an unforgivable sin.

"Had he listened to us, his life would not have ended this way. Vikas never helped us in any way. Due to him, even our ancestral property was razed to the ground. He also killed eight policemen, which is an unforgivable sin. The administration has done the right thing. Had they not done so, tomorrow others would have acted similarly," Ram Kumar said.

"It is the chief minister's duty to protect every individual. The police is an extension of that. He attacked them which cannot be forgiven. I will not even take part in his cremation," he added.

Ram Kumar Dubey said that his only appeal to the government is to allow him entry to his ancestral property now.

Vikas Dubey was cremated at Bhairav Ghat in Kanpur. His wife, younger son and brother-in-law were present and no other member of his family attended the last rites.

Vikas Dubey was arrested by the police in Ujjain on Thursday morning. He was on the run for the last six days and had come to the city to offer prayers at a temple, where he was identified by a security guard.

He was killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police earlier today after he "attempted to flee".

The gangster was the main accused in the encounter that took place in Bikru village in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur last week, in which a group of assailants opened fire on a police team, which had gone to arrest him.

Eight police personnel were killed in the encounter.

Vikas Dubey managed to escape after the incident. Uttar Pradesh police had launched a hunt and raised a bounty on him for Rs 5 lakh.

New Delhi, Jun 7: The Islamic Centre of India on Saturday issued an advisory for those visiting mosques in view of the Centre’s decision to allow reopening of religious places from June 8.

Islamic Centre of India chairman Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali advised people above 65 years and under 10 years of age not to visit mosques and instead offer prayers at home.

He also advised against crowding in mosques, stressing that not more than five people should be present at a time and social distancing be maintained, with the ‘namazis’ using masks and keeping a distance of six feet among themselves while offering prayers.

He added that the situation would be reviewed after 15 days and if required, another advisory would be issued.

San Francisco, Mar 14: Microsoft on friday announced that co-founder Bill Gates has left its board of directors to devote more time to philanthropy.

The 64-year-old stopped being involved in day-to-day operations at the firm more than a decade ago, turning his attention to the foundation he launched with his wife, Melinda.

Gates served as chairman of Microsoft's board of directors until early in 2014 and has now stepped away entirely, according to the Redmond-based technology giant.

“It's been a tremendous honor and privilege to have worked with and learned from Bill over the years,” Microsoft chief executive and company veteran Satya Nadella said in a release.

Nadella said Microsoft would continue to benefit from Gates' “technical passion and advice” in his continuing role as a technical advisor.
“I am grateful for Bill's friendship and look forward to continuing to work alongside him,” he added.

Gates left his CEO position in 2000, handing the company reins to Steve Ballmer to devote more time to his charitable foundation.

He gave up the role of chairman at the same time Nadella became Microsoft's third CEO in 2014.

Regularly listed among the world's richest people, William H. Gates was a geeky-looking young man when he and Paul Allen co-founded Microsoft in 1975.

Gates went on to turn his attention from software to fighting disease and other humanitarian challenges with his wife, under the auspices of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
