BJP mocks CM, ‘confers best actor’ award on him

Bengaluru, Jul 16: A day after his tearful address to his partymen, the BJP mocked Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday, by terming him as the “best actor” giving a “brilliant performance”.

Posting a video clip showing Kumaraswamy weeping at a JD(S) party event on Saturday, BJP Karnataka tweeted, “& the best acting award goes to.. (Kumaraswamy). Our country has produced talented actors. Actors who have mesmerised the audience with their brilliant performance. Here we have another legendary actor Mr Kumaraswamy, an actor who has constantly fooled common man with his amazing acting skills.”

BJP leader and Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation D V Sadananda Gowda expressed doubts over Kumaraswamy’s intentions of visiting Kodagu.

Speaking to reporters a day after Kumaraswamy said that he would spend two days in the rain-ravaged district, Gowda said, “I am not sure if the chief minister will be making a jolly trip to Kodagu by visiting resorts or if he will seriously address the problems of the district. It’s not right on his part to play favourites or restrict himself to certain regions or communities.”

Referring to a video of class 8 boy Kalera Fateh, taking a dig at him for “neglecting” Kodagu district in his budget, a visibly agitated Kumaraswamy had claimed that he was being unnecessarily targeted (by the opposition and the media).

He had also aired suspicions about the BJP being behind the video which has gone viral.

Gowda said Kumaraswamy was free to get the entire matter investigated.

He also took jibes at Kumaraswamy for repeatedly breaking down in public fora.

Noting that Kodagu was not only one of the major tourist attractions in the state, it was also the major source of water to southern Karnataka, the BJP leader said Kumaraswamy should have allocated at least Rs 100 crore to Kodagu in his budget.

Gowda said as chief minister, he and B S Yeddyurappa had set aside Rs 50 crore and Rs 100 crore, respectively, for the development of the district.

Bengaluru,  Jul 18: Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers DV Sadananda Gowda on Friday said that Government of India headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been extending all possible assistance to state government in their endeavour to combat the deadly coronavirus.

In a statement released after participating in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa in Bengaluru today, Gowda said he shared his views with the state government on how to control the spread of COVID-19 in the state in general and Bengaluru in particular.

He said the Centre was in constant touch with the state government on the issue. The centre is more than happy to extend any help further if Karnataka requires so.

"Being a Union Minister handling the Pharmaceutical Department also, I am closely monitoring the medicine demand and supply situation across the country on a day-to-day basis. The availability of required medicines including HCQ and Paracetamol is satisfactory in all states including Karnataka. Also, there has been enough lifesaving drugs in our Jan Aushadhi Kendras all over India. Over 600 such outlets exist in Karnataka alone," he said.

"If there is any issue related to medicine shortage or overpricing, one can bring it to my knowledge or call PMBJP tollfree number 18001808080 or NPPA number 18001112550 / 011-23345118 / 011-23345122. The grievances will surely be resolved to everybody's satisfaction" added the minister.

With related to state governments or private agencies seeking to import emergency medicines, medical equipment etc., Gowda assured, we would facilitate required licences without any delay.

"I strongly feel that it is our collective responsibility to use everything in our armour to defeat the pandemic. We also seek public support in this mission. Together, we will win," he said.

Mangaluru, Feb 21: The local units of Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal today staged a protest in the city against Amulya Leona, who raised pro-Pakistan slogans yesterday in Bangaluru.

Amulya is the daughter of Wazi Noronha, a former leader of minority of wing of BJP in Koppa taluk of Chikkamagaluru district. He had worked in support of hardline BJP leader and Udupi-Chickmagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, and D N Jeevaraj, who had represented Sringeri constituency last time.

The 19-year-old B.A. student was arrested on sedition charge after she raised pro-Pakistan slogans to embarrass the organisers of a peaceful protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Bengaluru.

Demanding stringent action against Amulya, a group of activist of VHP and Bajrang Dal staged protest at Kadri Mallikatte Circle in the city. Speaking on the occasion, M B Puranik and Sharan Pumpwell demanded NIA probe into the incident.
