BJP MP Pratap Simha among 100 detained for violating prohibitory orders

Mysuru, Dec 3: Pratap Simha, the Karnataka chief of BJP Yuva Morcha, who was asked by the party supremo Amit Shah to hold more and more anti-government protests in the state, on Saturday courted arrested along with around 100 saffron activists at Hunsur in Mysuru district for violating prohibitory orders.

The Mysuru district police has permitted the organisers of the Hanuma Jayanthi in Hunsur to take out its procession on a specified route, while imposing prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in the rest of the town.

Police said the gathering of Mr Simha, who is also the MP of Mysuru-Kodagu constituency, and his followers had violated the prohibitory orders, posing a threat to law and order in the communally sensitive town.

Heavy police security had been deployed in Hunsur since Saturday for the Meelad and Hanuma Jayanthi celebrations.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the town with supporters of Mr. Simha staging a protest demanding his release.

Newsroom, Jun 16: A 35-year-old Kannada lecturer died in a motorbike accident at Tumkuru in Karnataka.

The deceased is K N Swamy, who was a guest lecturer in Department of Kannada at Central University of Kerala located at Periya in Kasaragod district.

The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon when he was riding his motorbike.

Swamy was also a writer and poet in Kannada.

Gadag, Feb 20: A 33-year-old Muslim man is all set to become a seer at Muruga Rajendra Mutt in Gadag.

Ordained by Sri Murugarajendra Koraneswara Swami of the mutt, Dewan Sharief Mullah claims he was taking the step not under any duress but after being "guided by the almighty".

"Nobody asked me to do it. The almighty came in my mind and guided me.... They have put the sacred thread and given me the responsibility. They have given me the 'Ishta-linga' and this honour. I have done the 'Ishta-linga dharan'. I will walk on the path of dharma. Love and sacrifice is the message given to me. That is what I want to propagate," he said.

Sri Murugarajendra Koraneswara Swami said, "It does not matter what caste you belong to. If God appears to you for a path of goodwill and sacrifice, you will do it regardless of the manmade restrictions of birth and caste."

Mangaluru, Mar 7: Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Ashwatha Narayana said journalists are facing a challenging task of functioning with credibility while also upholding their professional ethics in this age of globalization where monetary aspects have gained great significance.

Inaugurating the 35th state-level Journalists’ Conference at the Kudmul Rangarao Town Hall on Saturday which was hosted by the DK District Working Journalists’ Union the Deputy CM also said that journalists should refrain from giving priority to political news as that does not serve any purpose for the common man.

Dharmadhikari of the Dharmasthala Temple Dr. D Veerendra Heggade was the chief guest at the event. The souvenir brought out to commemorate the occasion was released by Taranga Editor Sandhya Pai. The Deputy CM also inaugurated a cartoon exhibition organized on the occasion.
