BJP MP Pratap Simha among 100 detained for violating prohibitory orders

Mysuru, Dec 3: Pratap Simha, the Karnataka chief of BJP Yuva Morcha, who was asked by the party supremo Amit Shah to hold more and more anti-government protests in the state, on Saturday courted arrested along with around 100 saffron activists at Hunsur in Mysuru district for violating prohibitory orders.

The Mysuru district police has permitted the organisers of the Hanuma Jayanthi in Hunsur to take out its procession on a specified route, while imposing prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in the rest of the town.

Police said the gathering of Mr Simha, who is also the MP of Mysuru-Kodagu constituency, and his followers had violated the prohibitory orders, posing a threat to law and order in the communally sensitive town.

Heavy police security had been deployed in Hunsur since Saturday for the Meelad and Hanuma Jayanthi celebrations.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the town with supporters of Mr. Simha staging a protest demanding his release.

Bengaluru, May 25: The 36-hour marathon lockdown call given by Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, passed off peacefully with people opting to remain inside their houses and cooperate with the state government to fight against spread of deadly Covid-19.

Though the call was only for 24 hours from 7 am (Sunday) to 7 am (Monday) another 12 hours was added to it as the night curfew was already in force from 7 pm on Saturday and the next day (Sunday) it continued till Monday up to 7 am.

Autorickshaws and bus service were off the road giving a tough time to people arriving from neighbouring places reach home that too during the night. Adding to their woes was heavy rain that lashed the city for more than two hours on Sunday evening flooding the streets.

Mangaluru/Udupi, June 28: The coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have recorded 97 and 40 fresh coronavirus positive cases in last 24 hours. 

With the highest single day spike, the total covid-19 positive cases in Dakshina Kannada mounted to 665, among which 272 cases are now active.

So far 313 people have recovered and discharged from the hospitals. 13 covid-19 patients have passed away. Two among them have died due to non covid reasons. 

With the 40 fresh cases, Udupi’s total mounted to 1179, among which only 135 cases are active. 1042 people have recovered and discharged from the hospitals. Two people passed away.

Bengaluru, May 8: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday held a meeting with opposition parties at his office here over COVID-19 situation in the state.

Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress leaders SR Patil and DK Shivakumar participated in the meeting. From Janata Dal (Secular), former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and HD Revanna were present.

"Congress legislative party leader Siddaramaiah and DK Shivkumar have arranged the Chief Minister to request the central government to announce a special package of Rs 50,000 crore to Karnataka to fight coronavirus and also special packages requested for small and medium scale industries," said Siddaramaiah's media secretary.

Meanwhile, Yediyurappa has announced a special package for those involved in leather works, especially those who work on the roadside.

The special package has been announced for cobblers and leather workers, who work on the roadside.
