BJP MP Pratap Simha subjected to court custody for defying judge’s order

Bengaluru, Mar 8: Bhratiya Janata Party’s Mysore-Kodagu Lok Sabha member, Pratap Simha, on Friday subjected to a court custody for brief while by a city court for defying its orders to appear personally in a defamation suit filed by the cine star and social activist Prakash Raj (Rai).

The magistrate of the People Representatives Court, remanded the BJP MP for a court’s custody, when the former had attended the court, after he and his advocate failed to respond several notices to appear before it in the defamation suit over his twitter comments against Mr Rai.

The Court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Mr Simha, in relation to a defamation suit filed by Mr Prakash Rai, who has announced to contest for the coming Lok Sabha elections from Bengaluru North parliamentary constituency had filed a defamation suit against Mr Simha for allegedly posting a defamatory remark against the cine actor, in his twitter account, recently.

Kalaburagi, May 15: Former Karnataka Minister Dr Sharanprakash Patil and 22 others, including several local Congress leaders, have been booked for violating lockdown guidelines by conducting a meeting at a convention hall in Sulpeth town on May 13.

The FIR was registered on Thursday against 23 persons, including the former MLA and 21 local Congress leaders, under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Congress leader Patil and his followers had conducted a meeting at a convention hall in Sulpeth town on May 13, following which sectoral magistrate Muneer Ahmed lodged a complaint.

This comes as the country of under lockdown and the Centre and states have issued strict social distancing and other norms to be followed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Bengaluru, Apr 15: Karnataka government will explore Ayurveda for fighting the deadly COVID-19, Ayurveda practitioner Dr Giridhar Kaje said here on Wednesday.

After meeting the Chief Minister, Dr Kaje informed media that on a trial basis, ten Coronavirus patients will be administered Ayurvedic treatment in a designated hospital.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has consulted senior doctors on the issue, he said.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: About 20,000 quintal boiled rice has been distributed among the ration card holders through Public Distribution System, District-in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said here on Saturday.

As people in the district prefer boiled rice over white rice, the government has given approval for distributing boiled rice. From next month, only boiled rice will be distributed in the district at fair price shops.

In the last two days, rice has been distributed among 61,302 cardholders in the district.
