BJP must answer why its workers illegally transport cows: Home Minister

Bengaluru, Aug 19: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has slammed Sangh Parivar for encouraging cow vigilantism, which claimed a youth's life in Udupi two days ago.

cows Asked about the murder of a BJP worker on Wednesday night by Hindutva activists for illegal cow transportation, the senior Congress leader said: "The BJP must answer why its workers were transporting cows illegally.”

He also said that it was the BJP which encouraged cow vigilantism in the state. “All these days, the BJP targeted Dalits and Muslims in the name of cow protection. Now a BJP worker was beaten for transporting cows," he said.

The Hindutva activists, who lynched BJP worker Praveen Poojary to death and brutally assaulted his aide Akshay Devadiga, claimed that they were transporting calves to a slaughterhouse.

Mr Parameshwara earlier said that prima facie cattle trade-related business dispute may be the reason behind the killing of the BJP worker.

"Many of the assailants have been arrested in connection with the incident. Police are suspecting some sort of a cattle trade-related business dispute," he said.

Parameshwara also expressed concern over repeated incidents relating to beef and cattle trade in Karnataka.

"We are vigilant; we will definitely try and maintain peace and order. I appeal to the people who are trying to create this kind of disturbance not to do this because we are a tolerant society and we should not create these kinds of issues," he said.

Kumar, it is an issue, 18 have been arrested, HM will give life imprisonment for all....and he should do that...so that people of Udupi live in peace and tranquility....

Govt must declare that only bjp workers can do cow business in india same like exporters. At least there will be peace in the society.

If declared constitutional by SC, it will be problematic for states to oppose CAA: Kapil Sibal

New Delhi, Jan 19: Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Sunday asserted that every state assembly has the constitutional right to pass a resolution and seek the amended Citizenship Act's withdrawal, but if the law is declared constitutional by the Supreme Court then it will be problematic to oppose it.

His remarks came a day after he had said there is no way a state can deny the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) when it is already passed by the Parliament.

"I believe the CAA is unconstitutional. Every State Assembly has the constitutional right to pass a resolution and seek its withdrawal. When and if the law is declared to be constitutional by the Supreme Court then it will be problematic to oppose it. The fight must go on!" Sibal said in a tweet.

His remarks on the CAA at the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) on Saturday had caused a flutter as several non-BJP governments, including Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Maharashtra, have voiced their disagreement with the CAA as well as National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).

"If the CAA is passed no state can say 'I will not implement it'. It is not possible and is unconstitutional. You can oppose it, you can pass a resolution in the Assembly and ask the central government to withdraw it.

"But constitutionally saying that I won't implement, it is going to be problematic and going to create more difficulties," said the former minister of law and justice.

3 new COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, tally reaches 503

Bengaluru, Apr 26: Three new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the state to 503 as per Karnataka government.

There are 302 active COVID-19 cases in Karnataka presently, while 182 patients have been discharged, 19 deaths have been reported, state government informed.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases across the country are 26,917, including 20,177 active cases of the virus. So far, 5,913 patients have either been cured or discharged while 826 deaths have been recorded in the country, as per data provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Resolution in Kerala Assembly is against unconstitutional Act passed by Centre: CM

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 1: Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said that the resolution passed by the Kerala Assembly is against the "unconstitutional Act passed by the Centre".

"The resolution passed by Kerala Assembly is against the unconstitutional Act passed by the Centre. It has been noticed by the whole country," Vijayan said.

The Kerala Assembly had on Tuesday passed a resolution seeking withdrawal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

Before the resolution was passed against the Act, Vijayan in a special Assembly session targeted RSS and said that citizenship law is part of an agenda.

"The CAA is part of an agenda. Muslims are being considered as internal enemies by RSS, who is controlling the ruling dispensation at the Centre," he alleged.

The new law grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday while talking about women safety, the Chief Minister said, "Those women, who are traveling face many problems, particularly regarding accommodation. To address this, government will start accommodation facilities in all towns. This project will be implemented with the help of local bodies."

Reacting to the development in the Kerala Assembly, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that Assembly has insulted the Constitution and parliament by passing a resolution seeking withdrawal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

"The Constitution has delineated clearly the roles of parliament and state legislatures. When people who have taken an oath of the constitution, destroy it, it is a most irresponsible act. Both the houses of parliament have passed CAA and if a state assembly tries to hijack the Act it is an insult not only of the constitution but the parliament as well," Naqvi told news agency.

MPs are taking oath to respect and safeguard indian constitution and not to disrespect it and go agaisnt the teachings of constitution. What Central Govt has done is 100 perent agaisnt the constitution and every citizen has the right to oppose this. You are definately go with the Govt as you are paid for it. But dont force other too to follow you. What Kerala Govt has done is according to will of people and Central Govtr should respect it.
