‘BJP offering Rs 40-cr per MLA; luring MPs too; Modi, Shah masterminds’

Ballari, Jul 14: Congress leader V S Ugrappa on Saturday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah were the masterminds behind Operation Kamala, to unseat the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in the state.

Speaking to media persons here, Ugrappa said, “In an overnight operation, the BJP poached 10 Congress MLAs in Goa. It is making efforts to lure Rajya Sabha members from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.”

The saffron party is spending over Rs 1,000 crore to lure MLAs from rival parties in the state. The BJP is offering Rs 30 crore to Rs 40 crore per MLA to join its fold. But I don’t understand why the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax department are silent.” he wondered.

“The BJP has failed in its last five attempts to unsettle the coalition government. Without power, it (BJP) is feeling like a fish out of water,” Ugrappa said.

Mangaluru, Jul 22: On the direction of the Karnataka government, private medical colleges in Dakshina Kannada have reserved 4,000 beds for the treatment of Covid-19 infected patients.

With this, the district will have a total of 4,720 beds for the treatment including that from the government set up.

The district administration has directed the eight private medical colleges to reserve 50 of its beds for treating the infected patients. Accepting the direction of the district administration, the management of medical colleges have submitted details on the beds reserved to the authorities concerned.

Bengaluru, Apr 18: With 12 fresh cases of the COVID-19 infection, including one woman, the total number of novel coronavirus cases in Karnataka surged to 371 on Saturday.

The sources said that as many as three new positive cases were reported from Mysuru district, followed by two each from Kalaburagi, Bhagalkote, one each case from Vijayapura, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Mandya, districts on Saturday.

Hubballi/Vijayapura, Feb 26: A 40-year-old resident of Talikoti town in Vijayapura was arrested on Tuesday and charged with sedition for allegedly saying 'I Love Pak Army' on a social media page and sharing a video of a song, 'Pakistan Zindabad'.

Police said they registered an FIR against Meru alias Merusab Hasansab Byagwat on a complaint filed by a contractor, Ashok Rathod of Nebgiri Tanda.

Byagwat has been booked under IPC sections pertaining to sedition (124A), promoting enmity between communities and making assertions prejudicial to national integration (153 A & B), among others.

In his complaint, Rathod said Meru had posted the video on his social media account on February 22. Rathod said he took a screenshot of the video and made some inquiries before approaching police.

Police said Meru would be produced in court soon.

Police said they are keeping a watch on pro-Pakistan activities. On Monday, slogans praising Pakistan surfaced on the walls of a government primary school in Budarsinghi. In the third week of February, three Kashmiri students shot a video hailing Pakistan and circulated it on social media in Hubballi.
