BJP ready to form next govt in Karnataka if coalition govt falls on its own: Yeddyurappa

Bengaluru, Jun 21: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the government if the JDS-Congress Coalition government in Karnataka headed by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy falls on its own, Opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly B S Yeddyurappa, who is also BJP State President, said here today.

Strongly reacting to the statement of the former Prime Minister and JDS National President H D Devegowda that state may face mid-term election, the BJP leader retorted that “There will be no mid-term election as BJP which is the single largest party in the Assembly will stake claim to form the next government”.

Opining that the Congress and the JDS leaders are trying to create confusion on the issue, he said that “The BJP will not allow to dissolve the house and make all efforts to form an alternate government in the event of the collapse of the Coalition government".

Mangaluru, Apr 1: Police have arrested a person on charges of spreading malicious comments against the Karnataka government staff engaged in the prevention of the novel coronavirus in the district.

City Police Commissioner Harsha on Tuesday tweeted, “One Nizam has been arrested and sent to judicial custody on court orders for spreading malicious content on social media through a platform idunammadhwani.. regarding various government functionaries engaged in anti-COVID-19 work and spreading rumours.”

Bengaluru, Apr 11: Seven more people have tested positive for coronavirus taking the tally to 214 in the state.

"Coronavirus cases rise to 214 in Karnataka, with seven more people testing positive between 5 PM Friday and 12 PM Saturday," said the Karnataka health department.

According to the health department, all these seven people have a history of contact with COVID-19 patients. Five of them are workers of a pharmaceutical company in Mysuru.

"Out of the total cases in the state, six people have died while 37 others were cured or discharged," added the state health department.

Kasaragod, May 27: In a tragic incident, two persons, who were brothers, died of asphyxiation while trying to rescue a calf that fell in their well at Bandhiyod near here on Wednesday.

Police sources said the elder brother Narayanan (50) entered into the well first to save the calf that fell in the well early in the morning.

His brother Sankaran (40) also followed suit after he noticed his brother fainting deep down the well. However, he also fainted inside the well.
