BJP ready to form next govt in Karnataka if coalition govt falls on its own: Yeddyurappa

Bengaluru, Jun 21: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the government if the JDS-Congress Coalition government in Karnataka headed by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy falls on its own, Opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly B S Yeddyurappa, who is also BJP State President, said here today.

Strongly reacting to the statement of the former Prime Minister and JDS National President H D Devegowda that state may face mid-term election, the BJP leader retorted that “There will be no mid-term election as BJP which is the single largest party in the Assembly will stake claim to form the next government”.

Opining that the Congress and the JDS leaders are trying to create confusion on the issue, he said that “The BJP will not allow to dissolve the house and make all efforts to form an alternate government in the event of the collapse of the Coalition government".

Mangaluru, Jun 12: A pregnant woman who returned from Maharashtra and tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, gave birth to a child at the Wenlock COVID-19 hospital in Mangaluru. After she experienced labour pain, a team of expert doctors performed the delivery through the caesarean section on Thursday.

Both the woman and the new born are safe, hospital sources said. The woman, who belongs to Kinnigoli in Dakshina Kannada district, had arrived in the city on Monday. She was in an advanced stage of pregnancy and was taken to another hospital the next day after she complained of weakness.

As she came from Maharashtra, she was shifted to a separate ward at the Wenlock hospital and quarantined. Her throat swab samples tested positive on Wednesday. A COVID-19 test will be done on the baby after a few days, district health officer Ramachandra Bairy said.

Bengaluru, Jun 18: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has deployed a COVID-19 infection control "surveillance team" to look after travellers coming from other states.

Those coming to Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural Districts must undergo a 14-day home quarantine.

The Bengaluru Mayor today inaugurated surveillance team at Dr Raj Kumar Glass House.

Deputy Mayor Ramamohan Raju, Health Standing Committee Chairman Manjunath Raju G, Special Commissioners D Randeep, Manjunath, Superintendent of Police Mr Murugan and other officials were also present in the event.

There are 7,944 coronavirus cases in Karnataka including 2,843 active cases and 4,983discharged. 114 patients have succumbed to COVID-19 in the state. 844 positive cases were reported in Bengaluru Urban and 39 in Bengaluru Rural.

Udupi, Jul 8: A 15-year-old boy belonging to Saligrama in Udupi district, who was under home quarantine with his mother, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself yesterday.

His throat swabs were sent for testing. The report received today and it showed that he did not have coronavirus.
 
The boy, a class ten student studying in Kota, was quarantined along with his mother at home after a person in a family, where she was working as a maid tested positive for Covid-19.

The boy is suspected to have taken the extreme step out of depression as he was not allowed to go out. The last rites were held today.
