BJP ready to form next govt in Karnataka if coalition govt falls on its own: Yeddyurappa

Bengaluru, Jun 21: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the government if the JDS-Congress Coalition government in Karnataka headed by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy falls on its own, Opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly B S Yeddyurappa, who is also BJP State President, said here today.

Strongly reacting to the statement of the former Prime Minister and JDS National President H D Devegowda that state may face mid-term election, the BJP leader retorted that “There will be no mid-term election as BJP which is the single largest party in the Assembly will stake claim to form the next government”.

Opining that the Congress and the JDS leaders are trying to create confusion on the issue, he said that “The BJP will not allow to dissolve the house and make all efforts to form an alternate government in the event of the collapse of the Coalition government".

Bengaluru, May 8: Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar along with Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday visited Kempegowda International airport for inspection of the screening facility as over 10,000 people from Karnataka stranded in other countries are scheduled to arrive in the state. 

Sudhakar said all safety measures have been taken for the screening and quarantine of all passengers in hotels, hostels, and school buildings.

He appealed to local residents not to panic as adequate safety measures are being taken to prevent any spread of COVID-19 infection.

Bengaluru, Jan 21: Controversial Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan will remain in state-syllabus textbooks in the next academic year (2020-21) too. But the government will form another committee to look at the subject afresh.

"Efforts are on to give textbooks and uniforms the day schools open next academic year. After a discussion with the CM, we decided to not make any changes in the textbooks for the upcoming academic year,"said primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar.

No political angle, says minister

However, we will form a committee to look into it again,” said the minister.

Three months ago, Madikeri MLA Appachu Ranjan had written to the minister seeking removal of contents on Tipu Sultan from Karnataka state syllabus books of classes 6,7 and 10. The minister said: “Appachu Ranjan is a five-time MLA. When he sent a letter, it’s my duty to seek an opinion on it. There’s no political angle here.”

Tumakuru, Jul 12: A four-year-old boy was killed by a leopard at Rajendrapur hamlet at Hasige Hobli village near Huliyurdurga in Kunigal taluk.

Police said on Sunday that this was the third such attack by big cats in the district in a span of six months.

Forest officials said that the boy had gone with his mother to wash clothes at a tank and the animal attacked him while playing there on Saturday late evening. 

A passerby who witnessed the incident scared the animal, it escaped leaving the boy’s body behind.
