Bengaluru, Oct 9: The Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka has resorted to the damage control mode after a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report officially confirmed the voice of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and Union minister Ananth Kumar in a video clip in which they were heard discussing about the payment of kickback to the party high-command.

Raising question about the reliability of the report, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar stated that the FSL report was obtained in just 20 days that included several holidays.

“Home Department advisor Kempaiah, Bengaluru Police Commissioner M N Reddy and chief minister’s principal secretary L K Atheeq are suspected to be involved in getting such a report from the FSL, as part of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s political vendetta, who wants to get Mr Yeddyurappa arrested at any cost,” Mr Shettar said.

He told media persons here on Monday that the entire CD of the programme in which Mr Yeddyurappa and Mr Ananth Kumar participated should be probed, as the video clip provided by the Congress leaders is a doctored one.

“The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has not yet initiated probe on the complaint filed by the BJP, against ministers and others for fabricating false evidence in this case.

The CID gave clean chit to minister K J George in DySP M K Ganapathy suicide case, without getting the FSL report during a 40-day probe, while the FSL report obtained so fast in this case is suspicious,” he said.

Though a total of 28 cases against Mr Siddaramaiah and his family members are filed with the ACB, only cases against Opposition leaders are taken up immediately, due to political vengeance of Mr Siddaramaiah. A false case was filed against me also, after I unearthed Arkavathy Layout denotifaction case, Mr Shettar charged.

If Mr Siddaramaiah has no role in Arkavathy Layout case, why Kempanna Commission report is not disclosed? We will demand to table it before the Legislative Assembly in the next session, he added.

The purported conversation

Ananth Kumar: He told me, you have given money to the Centre and I have also given money. I am only saying in public that I have not given. But why make this Rs 1,000 crore allegation? (Kumar seems to be quoting a chat he had with a Congress leader). I asked him, okay tell me how much of money you have given. (Yeddyurappa laughs). It is like he has accepted.

Yeddyurappa: We would have given (money to the Centre) but we never kept records of it.

Ananth Kumar: If you throw a stone now it will taint them (the Congress government in Karnataka). Nobody will believe that they did not make Rs 1,000 crore of payments to the Centre. They will only think that he has definitely given the amount.

Yeddyurappa: Let it all come out.

Ananth Kumar: They will have to go around issuing denials on this issue till the elections. Let them answer.

Chennai, July 27: Multi-lingual actress Vijayalakshmi, who attempted suicide yesterday, alleging harassment and bullying by followers of Naam Thamizhar party leader Seeman and Panankattu Padai’s Hari Nadar, is recuperating at a hospital in Chennai.

Vijayalakshmi is known for films like Friends and Boss Engira Baskaran. She recently made headlines for speaking against Seeman and the torture she was allegedly facing from the actor-turned-politician and his party.

In the video which was uploaded on Sunday evening, Vijayalakshmi said, “This is my last video and I have been in tremendous stress in the last four months because of Seeman and his partymen. I tried my level best to survive all these days because of my mother and sister, but I have been humiliated in the media by Harinadar recently.”

She added, “I would like to tell fans who are watching the video just because I was born in Karnataka, Seeman has tortured me a lot. As a woman, I have put up with it to my highest capabilities. I won’t be able handle the pressure anymore. I am from the Pillai community, the same community LTTE leader Prabhakaran is part of. Prabhakaran is the only reason Seeman is who he is today, but now he has been harassing me on social media continuously. You slut shamed me to make me feel the pain and it is up to me to decide on what to do after facing such insults from you. I request my fans not to let Seeman get away from this case. He should never get anticipatory bail. My death should be a big eye-opener to everyone. I don’t want to be a slave to anybody.”

Bengaluru, May 7: Fear and anxiety gripped migrant workers who lined up at police stations in the city on Wednesday to register for train services without knowing that the state government had cancelled the train facility.

Senior officials in South Western Railway said they were ready to run special trains for migrant workers. On Tuesday evening, the state government decided to withdraw the requests made for 13 such trains to north India after realtors said they need the labourers here.

Migrants continued to stream into the railway station at Majestic, Bangalore International Exhibition Centre and even the bus station hoping for some travel arrangement. Many who were aware of the government web portal, stood in front of the BBMP ward office or police stations for enrolment.

In Varthur, over 100 migrants stood in front of the police station and sought to know what happened to the forms they had submitted four days ago. "We first went to the BBMP office and were shooed away by an official who directed us to go to the police station. We want to go home and demanded that the police help us. There was no response first. Then they came out and beat us," said Pintu Kumar from Mohanpur of Bhagalpur district in Bihar.

Though a video clip accidentally shot by Kumar showed two police personnel charging the cane at them, a police officer from the Varthur station, however, disputed the claim. "The video doesn’t show the cane landing on any person. We were beating the seat and tyre of two-wheelers to send the migrants away," he said.

At Mahadevapura, the workers came in groups and submitted the forms at the police station.

At the railway station in Majestic, a group of labourers from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand had walked from several areas in south Bengaluru only to be told that there is no train. Mahendra, a labourer from Jharkhand, said they received 5 kg rice and nothing else in the last 45 days. "Now, I don’t want food. I don’t want the job or money. I can't get stuck here. I want to go home,” he said.

'Restore dignity'

Activists and leaders wrote an open letter to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa questioning the decision to cancel trains without consulting labourers and protesting the violation of their fundamental rights.

The letter had support of 522 organisations and individuals, including Dalit rights organisations and trade unions. It urged the government to restore the dignity of the migrant workers. "We demand recognition of the autonomy and dignity of the migrant workers to decide their travel plans. No one should be forced either to stay back or to return to their home states," it said.
