BJP retains Hebbal; Jaffer Sharief’s grandson bites dust

aynarayanBengaluru, Feb 16: BJP candidate YA Naryanaswamy has emerged victorious in the just concluded by-election to the prestigious Hebbal Assembly constituency.

Former union minister and Congress veteran CK Jaffer Sharief’s grandson Abdul Rahman Sharief has suffered defeat for the second consecutive time.

The results of the bypolls to the three assembly constituencies in Karnataka including Hebbal were announced on Tuesday.

Mr. Jaffer Sharief had lobbied hard to get ticket for his grandson as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had urged the party high command to field his close aide and Independent MLC Byrathi Suresh, a popular leader in the region.

Mr. Rahman Sharief had lost to Jagadish Kumar of the BJP in the 2013 Assembly election by a margin of just 5,000 votes in Hebbal. More details are waited

Mysuru, Jan 16: A day after the Mysuru Advocates’ Association refused to defend a student in Mysuru who has been charged with sedition case for displaying a ‘Free Kashmir’ placard, president of the People’s Lawyers’ Guild of Davangere, has come forward to appear in the Court on behalf of her.

Opposing the attack on JNU students and teachers at JNU recently, Nalini had displayed a ‘Free Kashmir’ placard during a protest on January 8 at Manasagangotri of the University of Mysore (UoM) campus here.

Members of the Mysuru Bar Association decided not to represent Nalini.

Mangaluru, May 17: A team of staff and students from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, have designed and developed a simple and cost-effective touch-less hand sanitiser dispenser kit at Research and Innovation Centre, Nitte.

According to a release here on Sunday, NITTE said that the most effective medicine for Covid-19 is social distancing, frequent use of sanitiser, and washing hands regularly. In work areas, many people sharing common sanitiser might lead to issues.

The developed product dispenses sanitiser upon sensing the presence of the hand. The product has features like automatic hand detection, indication for power, and sanitiser quantity in the system.

Hassan, Mar 14: Karnataka Health Department officials took help of the Police to get a man, who returned from pilgrimage to Mecca (Saudi Arabia), admitted to hospital as he refused to undergo clinical tests for suspected Coronavirus, official sources said on Saturday.

According to the sources, a family from Arkalgud taluk, who was on a pilgrimage to Mecca and Madina, returned on March 5 and the woman from the family developed fever and symptoms of flu.

On Friday evening, in view of the Coronavirus scare, a team of Health Department officials visited their house and directed them to get admitted to a hospital in Hassan for treatment.
