BJP to roll out 160 'raths' to launch Bihar poll campaign Thursday

July 16, 2015

Patna, Jul 16: BJP president Amit Shah will launch the party's campaign for the coming Bihar Assembly polls by rolling out 160 'raths' (chariots) tomorrow which will fan out in different directions and traverse the length and breadth of the state.

BJP"BJP President Amit Shah is coming tomorrow to launch 160 raths which will embark on 'parivartan yatra' (journey of change) across the state. They will go to every village and locality in the state and take our party's audio visual messages to the people," party's general secretary and Bihar in-charge Bhupendra Yadav said today.

Yadav said the raths will highlight the plight of Bihar during the "15-year rule of RJD chief Lalu Prasad" and how it destroyed the state.

It will also focus "on the seven years of progress under the NDA rule and again two-and-a-half years of chaos and confusion", he said.

"Our party has made 80 lakh new members in the state. These raths with the help of NDA constituents and allies including LJP, RLSP and Hindustan Awam Morcha - Secular, will reach all houses in the state and with their help reaffirm our determination to change Bihar to ensure better development and future," Yadav said.

Street plays will be staged and party leaders will work in tandem with booth-level workers to spread the message of change. Party workers will also indulge in door-to-door campaign for the polls.

"The results of Legislative Council polls have already declared that panchayati raj representatives have put faith in BJP and its allies. Their mandate is a clear-cut indication that Bihar is progressing on the path of change," Yadav said.

The BJP Bihar in-charge also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming on July 25 to address a 'Parivartan Rally' at Muzaffarpur.

New Delhi, Jan 11: Islamic preacher Zakir Naik has revealed that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government offered to drop false money-laundering charges against him and provide with a "safe passage to India" in return for his support to the government's move to revoke Article 370 of the Constitution.

In a statement issued by Naik's PR team on Saturday, the Islamic preacher said that he was approached by a representative of the Indian government in September, who offered him the said deal on Kashmir, which he refused.

"Three and a half months before, the Indian officials approached me for a private meeting with a representative of the Indian government. When he came to Putrajaya (a Malaysian city), in the fourth week of September 2019, to meet me, he said that he is coming after personally meeting and under the direct instructions of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the Home Minister of India Amit Shah," Naik said in a video statement released by his Mumbai-based PR team.

Naik, who has been living in Malaysia for the last three years, is facing charges of inciting communal disharmony and committing unlawful activities in India.

"(The representative) said that he wanted to remove the misconceptions and miscommunications between myself (Naik) and the Indian government, and wants to provide me a safe passage to India," he added. "He (the representative) said that he would like to use my connections to better the relationship between India and the other Muslim countries."

"The meeting lasted for several hours. He told me that he wanted me to support the BJP government when they revoked Article 370 in Kashmir. And I flatly refused," he added.

Naik said that after he refused the offer, he was further asked to not make public statements against the BJP or Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Lucknow, Jul 24: The Congress in Uttar Pradesh on Friday protested against what it dubbed as deliberate and systematic deletions of chapters dealing in freedom struggle and the party's role in it from the syllabi of Classes 10 and 12 of the Secondary Education Board.

Congress leader Anugrah Narain Singh said: "The deletions effected in Class 12 syllabus clearly has political overtones. Chapters dealing with the freedom movement and the Congress role in it have been cut out. The BJP has no role of its own in the country's history and, therefore, wants that the new generations should not learn about the Congress contribution as well."

A Congress delegation submitted a memorandum to UP Eduction Board Secretary Divya Kant Shukla to demand restoration of the deleted chapters and topics.

BJP MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi accused the opposition Congress of "turning every occasion into a political opportunity during the pandemic".

"The Congress is unnecessarily making an issue out of this. Only some portions have been deleted from the syllabi due to shortening of the academic session due to the nationwide lockdown. People already know about the Congress and the cut in the syllabi is only temporary. The Congress is unnecessarily trying to create a political controversy," she said.

Prof Yogeshwar Tiwari of the History Department in the Allahabad University dubbed the changes made in the syllabi as "unfortunate". "The history is not of the Congress alone -- it is the history of the nation and every student must know about it," he said.
