BJP stages protest in Mangaluru, Ullal; VHP calls for road block on Friday

Mangaluru, Jan 4: The activists of Bharatiya Janata Party and other Hindutva groups on Thursday staged road blocks and demonstrations in Managluru, Ullal and other areas of Dakshina Kannada district in protest against the murder of Deepak Rao, said to be a Bajrang Dal activist.

Deepak Rao was hacked to death by a gang of miscreants at Katipalla in broad daylight on Thursday. Police have arrested six persons in connection with the murder.

Dozens of activists courted arrest when the staged rasta roko at PVS junction in the city. They raised slogans against the state government and demanded resignation of Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai, and Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

The protest led to traffic jam in the city. Soon sleuths from Mangaluru North and Pandeshwar Police stations rounded up the agitators and took them in buses. 

Meanwhile, Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Bajrang Dal and other Hindutva outfits have called for a protest and road block in Mangaluru city on Friday morning demanding a ban on two political outfits Popular Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

VHP leader Gopal said the protest will begin at 11 am on Friday with a road block. The objective of the protest is to condemn the murder of Hindu activist Deepak Rao in Mangaluru on Wednesday.

Bengaluru, Jul 27: Former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday took strong exception to the BJP's celebration over completing one year in office and alleged that people are suffering due to anti-people policies of the state government.

In a tweet on Monday, he said that since the last six months pension due to physically challenged, old age and Widow pensions were not paid. He urged the Government Issue emerge order to release pension amounts immediately. It was shameful on the part of the Government to keep the pension amount being kept pending.

This government has no eyes and ears and claiming only challenging years and transparent government, what examples required for them, he questioned.

Mysuru, Jan 20: As the Karnataka state Congress is still awaiting the appointment of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President, MLA Satish Jarkiholi has said that in order to balance the caste and regional equations, All India Congress Committee (AICC) was planning to create four working presidents posts for KPCC.

Talking to media personnel here on Sunday, Mr Jarkiholi, who is considered to be in the race for the post, said that a clear picture about the constitution of additional posts of the working president in the KPCC would emerge in a week.

He added that it has been delayed due to the Assembly elections in Delhi.

Bengaluru, Mar 10: Three more positive COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Karnataka taking the tally to four, state Health Minister B Sriramulu on Tuesday informed.

"Their family members have been isolated and their health is being monitored. I urge citizens to take precautionary measures and co-operate in preventing the spread of this infection," Sriramulu said.

As on Monday, the national tally of persons affected by the coronavirus is 45.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), in the past 24 hours, one positive case from Kerala, two from Pune, and three from Bengaluru have been confirmed.

Apart from the ICMR; National Institute of Virology in Pune; 51 Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories; and National Centre for Disease Control, New Delhi are carrying out tests for COVID-19.
